KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE MY BLOW DRYER RUN!

Cabin Fever
I just realized that I have been in the house for a long time. When I went out to shovel the other day I decided to have some fun and make a different kind of snowman. My husband laughed his head off when he rolled in after another long day of plowing. The neighbors enjoyed it too!
I got a few more blocks made this weekend.
This one makes me a little uncomfortable because I think it looks like a swastika. Does it? The sashing in the middle makes it a bit different, but enough?
I like the colors in this one.
This one refuses to lay flat.
I like this color combo too.
I would like to hear opinions about that first block, if you don't mind.

I don't really like that first block. I know it isn't a swastika, but it reminds me of one. If it bothers you, you could turn the upper left and lower right units so that they point out.
ReplyDeleteI love your snow man! what a hoot you are! we are getting more snow tomorrow - I'm not even going to comment on that!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't really see the swastika until you mentioned it. I saw the flying geese first.
you are really getting lots of blocks done with all your time inside - good for you!
Your snowman is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with the block. I didn't actually see a swastika until I read your thoughts. The snowman is hilarious! You got a thing going now. What's next?
ReplyDeleteDid not look like a swastika until you brought it up... but the thing to remember is the swastika was s symbol o abundance and fertility long before the 3rd Reich picked it up.
ReplyDeleteBest snowman I've seen in awhile--too funny! If you see the swastika in your first block now, then you're probably always going to. Our minds are just focused that way.:)
ReplyDeleteI did not see a swastika until you mentioned it. I do agree with Audrey, though...if it bothers you don't use it, your eye will always go to it.
ReplyDeleteI love your snowman. It is so funny. Snowing here today. :(
LOL that snowman is hilarious!! So funny!! Rebecca's comment is spot on, it was a sacred symbol long before the nazis used it. And I agree with Audrey that if you're uncomfortable about it now you'll always see it that way. I would would it look more like a flower if you appliquéd a circle in the center?
ReplyDeleteLove your snow buddy, lol. Don't use the block if you don't like it.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you thought outside the box for that poor guy snowdrift diving!! LOL. Since I've already made that block, I guess it never occurred to me that it looked like a swastika. It looks like a ribbon to me. When mixed in with all of the other blocks, it won't bother you, I don't think.
ReplyDeleteQuite a while ago, Nancy and I did the BOM for Calico Cutters. It was a sampler quilt. One of the blocks was 4 spools of thread, pieced. I never thought much about it. Several years later, Don was looking at the quilt and saw a swastika. I could never look at the quilt the same way again. To me, it doesn't matter what it originally stood for. It became a symbol of the terrible, heartless murder of millions of people by egomaniacs. Put it away Kelly.
ReplyDeleteMy husband heard me giggling when I opened your post and had to run over and see the picture. Too funny and what a conversation piece. Your DH gets a PHD for piling snow higher and deeper. Love that the skies have gone from gray to bright blue. And your blocks and pincushion are a nice sunny spot in all of this "S" stuff or "I" stuff that we had last night. Forecast is for thunderstorms here Thursday night!
ReplyDeleteThat snowman is a prizewinner! You need to find some kind of contest that it can be entered into! As for the block, I did not see it that way, but after reading the comments, I would probably not keep it unless it could be modified in some way that didn't have that look to it at all. If you're not making all of the other blocks, I'd just keep it out. Truthfully, though, I thought it was very pretty - great fabrics and colors!
ReplyDeleteIf you think it looks like a Swastika then it does. I think it looks like legs bent in running, not the other at all! It's so nice to see you and Bob having fun despite the snow!
ReplyDeleteI really like your Farmer's Wife Blocks. So bright, colorful and cheerful! That is a quilt I am working on but doing in the more traditional fabrics. Your snow picture is hilarious! What a sense of humor you have!
ReplyDeleteHi, I just found your blog! and love it! I am also making the FW in bright colors. I did not think that until you said it, so leave it out, you will feel better and when I get to that point, I am going to leave it out too! Off to add you to my Feedly list
ReplyDeleteLove the first picture, Kelly! You have a great sense of humor. And how good that you could make your hard-working husband laugh. You sure put a smile on everyones' faces! Love those blocks too.
