HOT HOT!

I just could not deal with the potholders from the last post.....when you don't feel it you know it just isn't right. So as I was cleaning up my messy table in my sewing room yesterday, I happened to find this pattern and decided to make them. I don't know who designed the pattern or even what magazine it was in. I ripped it out and put it on the "pile to make someday". I think they are pretty fun!

A couple of years ago my SIL gave me these very pretty sunflowers. The birds have helped me with all these volunteers! One of the things I like is that I can see them from my kitchen window, Right now the birds are landing on them and pecking out the seeds. It is delightful to watch and they are ensuring a new crop for next year......

Isn't it an amazing color? I love how they are eye level on the deck too.

Not only do the birds like them but so do the bees and the butterflies! A win-win.

Henry Ate The Quilt

Our snow barely materialized. We got maybe an inch after they were forecasting 12" at one point. It still messed up the morning with icy roads. So with a whole day ahead of me I was not in much of a sewing mood.

I made this pot holder a few years ago and it looks it. I liked the size 5 x 9. It's the kind that you bend in half to use.

I am not sure how this happened..

Remember this cool fabric? It is more like a decorator weight. It will hold up better than regular cotton.

I opted not to bind them as I know what they will look like in a few years. I have 5 more cut out, ready to sew.

My nod to Mad Men, love this back. In a way they kind of look like mini pads????

Okay, now about Henry......He is my son Dylan's dog. Apparently when he was a puppy he snacked on this quilt. It is very Thimbleberries, flannel, circa 1990's. I remember making this for him when he lived in West Chester with some buddies. To save money they kept the heat real low. If we went over we went in the spring and still kept our coats on ( :

 In no way shape or form did I have any of that fabric leftover! So rather than try to match it I let the flaw shine for all to see. It is in the washing machine now to make sure it held up. Yes or no? What do you think? Would this bug you? would you have to match it up better?

Lone Star Quilt

I am so happy to be able to show you  this quilt today. It fits right in with the Christmas season but it was not made to be a Christmas quilt. I love red and green together, it is such a classic! It is not yet quilted and I am trying to figure out what I want to do. The center really does radiate!

The pattern was an antique quilt I saw in an old Fons & Porter magazines years ago. I tore out the picture and saved it.

The quilt did not have any instructions so I drafted my own pattern and tweaked it just a bit to work with my style of sewing.

The center was giving me issues.....I could not line up the center lines even though I tried 5 times. I gave up and used a solution my friend Suzanne used, put a circle on it. I think it draws your eye to the center. I like it better with it than without.

This quilt makes me happy every time I look at it.

Is it making you dizzy? You will notice I had to have some more red....

I also did some sewing for myself. I am having 36 people here for Christmas Eve. New potholders were in order!

I used up lots of scraps....

just had some fun....

and added a little bit of quilting.

A Christmas plate was used as a template to keep with my theme.

Wednesday Morning

Yes I am back to making some pot holders.....I do like this pattern. It is from the book Patchwork Please! by Ayumi Takahashi. I don't have the binding on yet and have never bound this shape.

The Chaos quilt is finished.....

This cute butterfly fabric was given to me by my daughter in law Mary. I love it when non sewing people go out of the box and buy me fabric. It is always fun to see what they like!

A hot tub was moved! No easy feat. Now we know it takes 9 Meanixes to move a hot tub!

I think they are congratulating themselves....there was a lot of discussion about this! This is one of those times that a big family comes in handy. In less than 24 hours after settlement all of their possessions were moved, not bad!

Foggy Wednesday Morning

While I was waiting for my husband to install the towel bars and mirrors in the bathroom.......I just stepped into my sewing room to visit my fabric. The next thing you know the rotary cutter is in my hand and one thing led to another......
It is small, maybe 9 x 14, I didn't measure it but I think that's about the size. I loved quilting it and it only took about an hour. The lines are about 1/6" apart, it was fun.
