Pie Lady Quilts

The Lovely Woods by Pie Lady Quilts

When I first saw this quilt on Instagram I instantly fell in love with it. Those trees even looked a little familiar. Jill at Pie Lady Quilts used my free pieced tree tutorial to make this awesome quilt.
As I perused her blog I found some really cool quilts and was instantly hooked.

Like this one....

and this one! I am so inspired and love her use of colors.

Jill has a free tutorial on her site to make the birds for The Lovely Woods that is pictured above  (go check it out and come back). I went right to town and made one. I love how it turned out and am adding it to my house quilt along with some trees.

Just to keep it real......I wanted to make a long skinny one to show you that they can be made any size. This one is not that great and may go to the orphan box........

I did make another tree and am surprised how quickly they go.

It's the perfect touch to this quilt.

It's going to end up being a very interesting quilt for sure!
Thank you Jill for all the inspiration!

Scrap Happy

Last spring I participated in a house block swap with some friends. I started putting them together and put them away as I was not sure what I wanted to do with them. I added a tree that I did a tutorial on a long time ago.

My scrap sewing pile is growing. The other day I saw on Crazy Mom Quilts that she is doing a sew along with scraps and I happen to have a bunch! I will see what she is doing and maybe sew along. Notice there is no purple in the pile......my least favorite color. I am rethinking that idea.

There is something satisfying about stacking them all up and putting them in a basket for safe keeping.

Sewing Day

I finally got all my nine patches from the swap that Barb, from Fun With Barb held last Fall. It was such a fun swap and I got a great variety of fabrics in this quilt. I did make some more on my own as I wanted it a little bigger, this one will go on the couch for naps.

While this was not the original pattern I chose, I sewed them all  wrong at the Getaway in February and decided I was not going to unsew them. I really do dislike sewing long rows together, it is pretty boring.

On my design wall I have another group of swap blocks also a swap that Barb organizd. This is a randomly pieced quilt so it is taking a bit longer than I thought.

When I haven't sewn in a while, I want to make everything that is floating around in my head. Not that it is practical but things get pulled out, willy nilly. These blue fabrics are going into the quilts for the twins now that we know they are boys. It's pretty bad when you are stacking up your boxes of scraps. A cleaning is in order!

I came upon this vintage Economy Patch quilt that I absolutely loved. Sorry for the bad pictures, it is very bright here today.

It is damaged and needs repair. There is one fabric in particular that has disintegrated. Part of me feels the needs to rescue it.......

but as I look closer at it much of it is coming apart. It was hand pieced and hand quilted with no batting and no binding.

The fabrics are very vibrant and have wonderful designs. It does need a bath too.
So would you cut it apart and use the fabrics or keep it whole and try to repair it? Does anyone know if I wash it now, would I be sorry?

Our House Is A Very, Very,Very Fine House

House block from Quilty Fun by Lori Holt

A few months ago Barb from Fun With Barb asked me if I wanted to do a house swap. We had 2 months to make them  so I said yes. I had a fun time making my houses but boy oh boy did the rest of the group knock it out of the park.

This is the same as the first house I just put an addition on to the top!

For this one I wonder undered the windows to keep the window pane effect.

The blocks could be any size and any technique but they had to be modern type fabrics and colors.

These are from Robin, I love the added ric rac, it adds a fun touch. I like how she mixed those fabrics too  The even funnier part is that a lot of those fabrics are mine! She got them at an auction at our guild.

These are Barb's blocks. I love that vintage gal holding the cake and the Halloween block!

Here is a close up of one of Barb's blocks, how fun!

These are Susan's blocks and I love the whimsical nature of her houses. I wish now I would have done mine more wonky, but I can always add some to the bunch.

This was a fun swap and if you have never tried one, do it with a few friends to see how it works so it is not overwhelming. I am so excited to see how these turn into a quilt, thank you ladies!
