I had 2 spots in my house where I wanted to hang some new quilts. This is called Snow Globe Mini and the pattern is by A Little Sweetness. I used 2 different fabrics for the globes and really like how it turned out.
The pattern called for a solid white but I loved the blue dots that made me think of snow.
This was not included in the pattern but it is a simple thing to do, add a flange. It's kind of like piping without the string inside. This is a mini quilt so I cut the red polka dot fabric 1" wide and folded it wrong sides together, press well. Add one strip to each side sewing a little less than 1/4" and then do the top and bottom. It will look like the picture above. The top and bottom strips should overlap the side strips.
Next add your binding as usual right on top of the flange. I love how crisp it looks!
I tried the other day to use this binding on something else and could not miter it to make the stripes line up. So thanks to many quilting friends (thank you Barb and Holly!)I used a straight seam which is bulkier but I like how the strIpes are almost perfect. You cannot see it at all on the front.
Doesn't a perfect miter give you the shivers? I love when that happens! Next you would turn your binding and sew it down the usual way. It is a very simple yet effective design element. Give it a try on your next small quilt, I think you will like the way it looks.
These my friends are the ingredients for something called Reindeer Crack. It is a simple and fun recipe to make with children and they will love it. Beware it's very sweet.
Reindeer Crack
3 cups of small pretzels
2 cups of Fritos
2 cups of Bugles
1 cup of Chex Mix
1 cup of roasted salted peanuts (I omitted them because of allergies)
1 1/2 cups of M&M's
1 package of white chocolate melting chips
Mix them all together in a big bowl. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler and pour over dry mix, stir thoroughly. Spread out on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper and let cool completely. Break up and store in an airtight container.
Cavities for everyone! My husband was doubtful that it would taste good but he ended up liking the sweet and savory.
