Spools of Thread Mini Quilt

Technically it's not a mini but that is what we call them at our guild. Next year we have our Penn Oaks Quilt show and one of the main events is our small/mini quilt raffle. Almost every member makes one (some make more). We do this instead of a large raffle quilt which can be very specific and not to everyone's taste.

The quilt is 16" x 24" and they are all the same size. Every pattern or theme is welcome! The thread in my spools is about 3/8" wide to give you a perspective.

I like all the cheerful colors and hope I get some takers! Imagine this in your sewing room....

I really like the fabric for the binding, it makes it feel playful to me.

If you have the opportunity to attend any small local show please do so. For our guild it is the major fundraiser and helps us to pay for our programs. It is getting harder and harder for guilds, especially small ones to put on shows. For the price of a yard of fabric, you can see some awesome quilts and vendors! I promise you will not be disappointed!

Finally!

Oh my goodness, it has been a long time since I felt this horrible! I think I had a light version of the flu. Super tired sleeping like 12 -13 hours a day and no appetite. It's been almost 2 weeks since I sewed.
Here is my 5th Sew Together Bag. I can't say I am getting any better making them but at least I don't need to look at the tutorial! I really like the outside fabric on this one and feel like it is very feminine.

The inside is also kind of girly, all pretty in pink and green.

Pattern: Mixing It Up by Lori Holt of Bee In My Bonnet

I machine quilted this baby up today and am very happy with my color choices. I think it will appeal to a lot of people for the mini quilt auction.

Don't you like the backing too? I am keeping that vintage vibe going. I asked for permission from the designer before I used the pattern. She gave it to me as long as I had her name and the name of the pattern on the back, a good think to keep in mind when using someone's pattern.

Once again I used the glue-it-down-method instead of pins. I love that fine tip!

After you draw on a thin bead of glue just hit it with the iron until it is dry and voila it is instantly basted waiting for you to sew it down. It also allows you to get your miters perfect too! I may just save this as some handwork to have on hand while waiting for a certain baby to arrive.....

This cool pin arrived in the mail today from Entropy Always Wins. Just for the record I started to quilt in 1976 before it was cool, and there was no decent fabric or magazines or books or patterns....

Oh Cherry!

I love this little mini cherry quilt. It is going to be in the mini raffle quilts at our quilt show next year. The pattern is from Fig Tree and Co.

I even had this cherry fabric in my stash for a backing, perfect!

Instead of putting a sleeve on these minis, I am using the triangle corner method which is fast and works well with this size (18 x 18). All you do is push a dowel in the corners and hang it up.

The pattern instructions had the quilting done in a crosshatch pattern. At first I didn't think I wanted to do that but decide to give it a try. I think it was a good pick, and it went fast. I used 40 weight Aurifil and lengthened my stitch to 4 on my Bernina.
I wanted to use the same red polka dot border fabric the binding. I didn't have enough and chose this one with a white flower, I like it better than the polka dot.
Hopefully I have one more to show you tomorrow......

Really Random Thursday Post

I have a few random things to show you today. I have a lot of almost finished things.
This is going to be a quilt for our quilt show's mini quilt raffle to be held next spring. I totally copied another one I made (well not exactly). The point is to make things people will want to buy a raffle ticket for. Who doesn't love a sunflower?

My friend Chris has recently discovered hexagons. She has been laboriously cutting them out with scissors. While I do have some larger ones already in progress, I want to make a small grandmother's flower garden. This paper punch is a 1" and makes tons of card stock hexagons in a jiffy!

Maddy's flower
It even encourages kids to be creative and they love to punch them out.

These are from the quilt along with 1/4" Mark.  So last week when I wasn't on the computer, I got these out to sew together. I couldn't remember how we were to lay them out and of course they were not in the order that I made them, so I had to wing it.

Have you heard about these new needles? I LOVE the box. You can get them at the Quilt Block in Exton. Jan, one of the owners gave me one to try and I really liked it. I will be buying more if for no other reason than I like the box! Marketing does work on me....

I also got a box of thread. Aurifil is my favorite thread to use. What is your favorite?

A box of thread that are totally my colors!

I taught a Quick Curved Ruler class yesterday and look at all the beautiful blocks!!! These are Holly's.

Sue and Holly
They did such a good job and caught on right away.

Sue is making a Christmas quilt.

Mary Lou

Mary Lou even brought her own table to get good and comfy. What a nice set up.

Mary Lou went through her stash and came up with this pretty combination.

I should have stole some of these scraps to make some nine patches.......I can't stop thinking about them!
Thank you ladies for a really fun day!

Monday Morning's Musings

I wanted to show you the work the ladies in my class did on Saturday. How cool is this? Paige decided to make 2! yes 2 mini quilts! This has some yo yos (did I spell that right?) which I thought was a great twist. She also used wool for the stems.

This is the other one she made....great job!

This was Christy's.....I like how she used the polka dot type fabric for the border.

This was Diana's and she has not machine quilted that much but did a beautiful job, very nice.

Kathy accidentally cut the edge of hers but fixed it with a nice little ribbon trim (upper right hand corner).

Penny and Christy
I did not get a picture of Penny's because she had to leave early. She almost had it completely finished before she left....send me a picture Penny!

One of the most amazing things about blogging are the friends you make...some you meet and some are only online. I am lucky to have met in person, Barb of Fun With Barb . She won a give away last month and look what she sent me! Thanks Barb it is so cute.

Congratulations to my son, Johnson. A year ago you decided to change your life and we all are so happy you did! Love you!! xoxo
