Workshop with The Valley Forge Homestead Quilters

I had the nicest bunch of ladies for a workshop on Saturday! They all were so enthusiastic and willing to try making a quilt block without a ruler.

I especially love it when a student changes the "pattern" to make it fit their idea of what they want to make. It tells me that the wheels are turning!

Many made 2 or more blocks and tried some extra ideas that I gave them to get the feel for the technique.

You can see how hard they were working (-:

I am hoping to see some finished tops tomorrow night when I go to do a trunk show for them, but once again the weather is threatening....these all seem to be happening on quilting days.

These are the colors (almost all) for the Modern Quilt Guild challenge. I think I have an idea...

The other day I turned on the iron and left it sitting on my mat, time for a new one! What was I thinking?

I need to get back to my painting. I am not feeling very inspired, maybe because there are no flowers or pretty things to look at except snow right now.

My friend Terry, who is actively hiking the Appalachian trail, sent me this book for my grandchildren. My one son has also done some hiking and there is word that another one may give it a try this year. I think the little boys will love having this read to them! Thank you Terry!

Lazy Summer Days End

Finally I have something to show after many months of no sewing. I love these trees and can't wait to finish it into a quilt. Most of the fabrics are Alison Glass but a few  are not. Many thanks to Cindy Z for figuring out this poorly written pattern that was in a magazine.......I imagine the pattern made by the maker is much clearer.

I am almost finished with the binding on my swap blocks quilt. Jamie long arm quilted it for me and she did a great job. I will show it when the binding is complete.

Leslie alerted me to the fact that The Quilt Block has the gorgeous Grunge prints with dots! There are many more colors if you are interested. Of course they look so much better in real life......if you need some call them at 610-363-0404 they will be happy to mail them to you!

I have been on a reading binge this summer. I read this incredible book many, many years ago when it first came out. I am re-reading it (I can't remember a thing!) so I can....

read the 2 sequels! I love finding a book with sequels that are already published!

This is our book club pick for next month. Has anyone read it?

Tree Workshop

Wednesday I held my workshop at the Loose Threads Quilt Guild. It was so much fun and the ladies loved making the block. This was made by Stephanie before she took the class.

Here is Stephanie with her block that she made in the class. I like how she chose to do a large trunk, it makes it totally her own.

I gave everyone a pattern to work from.....

but they were free to make it their own and change up the branches.

The color choices were great!

Rosemary chose a silvery gray batik with 4 different blue backgrounds to make a wallhanging. I think the branches look very wintery.

Debby chose Amish colors. I think this is going to be very cool! I love all that contrast.
Thank you everyone for a great class and your enthusiastic appreciation of my quilts. I know I very much enjoyed my day!
