Trespassing
This weekend the weather was perfect for an egg hunt and Easter dinner with the family. We celebrated on Saturday because it worked with everyone's schedule better. The grandkids loved the cupcakes I made complete with Peeps. You've got to love a peep.
Where are lucky to live in an area where there is not a lot of crime. So a few weeks ago I was upset to find that an abandoned paper mill near where I live was covered in graffiti. We waited to see if the owner would clean it up, not so. Enter Kelly and Bob, trespassers and graffiti remediators.
We had to walk along the edge of the creek, in the mud to go around the fence to get in. No less than 100 people had to see us painting over the graffiti.
I think we did a pretty good job matching the existing white. Bob mixed up a bunch of leftover white, gray and black exterior paint he had at the house.
While I am not sure it won't come back, you can be sure we will be back each time to cover it up.
Many people think of graffiti as "art" and some think of it as "blight". What do you think?
The most creative thing I did this past week was make cupcakes and a new header.......some sewing really needs to be on the schedule. How long can I entertain you with my trespassing escapades?
Kelly

Although graffiti is considered as an art form, personally I don't like it. It's disturbing to see it on this paper mill. Considering where it is located, I don't think it was anything more than act of vandalism. You and Bob are kind and considerate and I hope those kids or who ever it was, get the message and learns from it.
ReplyDeleteThose cup cakes look yummy and the new header looks perfectly springy!
Happy Spring to you Kelly!
Love your new header and your trespassing...good for you!
ReplyDeleteYou and Bob are assets to your community. I wish the graffiti "artists" could get the attention thy seem to be craving in another way. Thanks for caring and taking responsibility.
ReplyDeleteYour new header is very pretty and springy.....yes I do like SOME graffiti, ...but not on buildings....boxcars...maybe.....I like looking at it while waiting on trains to pass.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! It's blight for sure. Love the new header too! Hugs, Mickie
ReplyDeleteOh! Your new header is fantastic.. and so are your cupcakes! As regards graffiti, I generally dislike them.
ReplyDeleteLove your new header! I like some graffiti but only when it's in a 'sanctioned' area. Otherwise it's very disturbing to see the complete lack of respect for others property.
ReplyDeleteGreat new header. Love the peeps cupcakes. Can't have Easter without Peeps. LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat job cleaning up the graffiti. I hate seeing buildings defaced like that.
Art or not, they don't have the right to "create" where they were not invited.
ReplyDeleteLove the peeps!
Your header is so perfect for Spring! Your Easter table setting is a beautiful party of colour!! I love your tier of Easter cupcakes! Yum! You did a great job of clearing up the graffitti, you can't tell it was ever there! I do like graffitti and street art when it's done in the right place with permission.
ReplyDeleteYou and your hubs did such a good thing! I think that's wonderful... that you went to the effort and took the time to cover it over. I've never seen graffiti like they have in Sydney, Australia. You'd think that being such a beautiful and bustling city, that people would take pride in it. But no. Hands down, Sydney has graffiti the worst I've ever seen. I'm glad that it isn't quite as rampant in the US. Good to know you had a nice Easter. And no... Peeps are one sweet I do not like. Wasted calories, IMO.
ReplyDeleteLove your new header, your peep cupcakes, and for covering up the graffiti.
ReplyDeletePretty new header. Bright and cheery after a long gray winter. Great job on covering graffiti. That was not art. Possibly gang symbols, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteLove your new header Kelly -- so pretty and colorful! Good work on the part of you and your husband - hope you won't have to paint over it again - that certainly isn't art in my eyes - -just an eyesore!
ReplyDeleteKudos to you and Bob. I love your new header too.
ReplyDeleteNo matter what you do, your posts will entertain and inspire me.
ReplyDeleteWell done you! Great new header too.
ReplyDeleteYou go Girl & Hubby! Love the "not turn your head type of person" (CREATIVE).
ReplyDeleteYour header is Great! (CREATIVE)
And little secret--I belong to "Peeps Anonymous"-Shh! The cupcakes look delish! (CREATIVE)
I 'd say you had one heck of a CREATIVE weekend!
Good for you guys!
ReplyDeleteI hate seeing buildings, etc., covered in graffiti…
Your header is awesome!
You two are wonderful! I hope it stays that way! Sometimes we just have to do things ourselves. Love your happy header and you didn't mention your table runner - beautiful!
ReplyDeletegreat new header! I love your cupcakes and the stand and cup papers. such a cute display. Glad you had nice weather for the family get together.
ReplyDeleteHooray for you and bob! Your are rural heroes in my book
Gorgeous cakes and a great new header!
ReplyDeleteI admire you for doing the cover up painting. I don't believe anyone has the right to damage another 's property.
I hope this does not happen too often.
I think if someone believes graffiti to be art they should do it on their own property. Good for you to paint over it. Thanks! Glad you had a nice holiday with family!
