I am so happy to be able to show you this quilt today. It fits right in with the Christmas season but it was not made to be a Christmas quilt. I love red and green together, it is such a classic! It is not yet quilted and I am trying to figure out what I want to do. The center really does radiate!
The pattern was an antique quilt I saw in an old Fons & Porter magazines years ago. I tore out the picture and saved it.
The quilt did not have any instructions so I drafted my own pattern and tweaked it just a bit to work with my style of sewing.
The center was giving me issues.....I could not line up the center lines even though I tried 5 times. I gave up and used a solution my friend Suzanne used, put a circle on it. I think it draws your eye to the center. I like it better with it than without.
This quilt makes me happy every time I look at it.
Is it making you dizzy? You will notice I had to have some more red....
I also did some sewing for myself. I am having 36 people here for Christmas Eve. New potholders were in order!
I used up lots of scraps....
just had some fun....
and added a little bit of quilting.
A Christmas plate was used as a template to keep with my theme.

So do you know what today is? Do you want some of my scraps that were used to make the potholders? Take a guess, leave me a comment and I will draw a random name on Monday and send them out.
Have a great weekend, we are getting snow again!
Kelly
It's Friday the 13th! Love your quilt. It really is beautiful. The potholders are a lot of fun.! That is really something I should put on my list of things to do! I need some new ones badly.
ReplyDeleteI actually have some of the fabrics you used in the potholders! Now I can use up those scraps. The red and white and green quilt is beautiful. I love the added applique.
ReplyDeleteWe are supposed to get more snow tonight too. I better go get milk. LOL
Kelly, I am glad you posted this today. I don't think I got a closer look at it the other day. Your red and Green appliqued circle made it even more striking as if it wasn't already amazing! Love the potholders. Oh my friend, do you ever sleep?
ReplyDeleteI love your potholders. I am hoping to get some made as well but we'll see......time is running out:( Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI totally swooned when I saw your quilt! It's so absolutely amazing!! The star radiates so vibrantly and the applique is beautiful , the overall effect is striking. The centre circle is brilliant, it really draws the eye in and centers the design. I love your pot holders too, each one is so fun!! I should be making oven mitts. December is flying by so fast! I think even though your post is full of Christmas fun that it is a lovely person's birthday today. Lots of happy birthday wishes on this special day. :)
ReplyDeleteKelly, your seasonal Lone Star quilt is wonderful! It is such a wonderful design and very striking in red and white. I love that circle in the center.
ReplyDeleteStarted squealing with delight upon seeing your scrappy potholders. They are so delightful! I need to make some too (especially after seeing yours).
Is today your birthday? Oh, if it is, I'm wishing you a wonderful day (let there be cake, presents and loved ones to celebrate your special day with you).
I think the Lone star quilt belongs in TEXAS, after all we are the Lone Star State, just saying, love u sis
ReplyDeleteYour star is very radiant and beautiful! Nice job on that!!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun potholders and such a nice gift. Merry Christmas.
What a marvelous Lone Star quilt!! (I although the one I have we called Star of Bethlehem when I was a kid.) It is so beautiful! It just vibrates on my screen. Love the addition of the more lime-y green instead of the usual darker green! Your applique is great too. Very fun and folky. I can't believe you just kind of made it up from a magazine photo - very clever, you!
ReplyDeleteLove your potholders - you have the cutest fabrics! I'm making some Pooh Bear potholders for my DIL. Her favorite, and her old ones are very old and sad now. I only had a little bit of Pooh Bear fabric, but managed to squeeze out a couple for her. Next time I may do round ones - I hate the corners 'cuz they always get stuck into something, like pizza!
Hey, I'm guessing it's YOUR birthday! If so, have a very happy, happy one! Lots of presents and cake! (not too many candles though!)
I love your quilt, so pretty. I think maybe December 13 the might be your birthday. If it is happy birthday.
ReplyDeleteYour lone star with appliqué turned out wonderful, glad you got back to it and finished it. I loved it when you showed it some time ago! I do know it's the day before my birthday! Have a happy day!
