The Good and The Ewww
My quilt is complete and I am very happy with it! I decided to chuck the border in favor of a nice red binding because I am running out of sewing time! I just realized I forgot the buttons on gingerbread boy....
Looking at it hung up I would definitely change the star fabric background (bottom left) it just doesn't go in my opinion. Hey that's what it's all about learning from our mistakes! I also fused the ribbons on to the wreaths, they were supposed to be dimensional.
Yesterday was our bee's Christmas lunch. We opted out of a restaurant this year and Robin hosted at her house. It was so much fun and way better than going out. Above are the gifts I received from my friends.
How cute is this? Jean did such a nice job and made each one in our "colors".
Robin made this again in our colors. I decided to put it in my sewing room so I can enjoy it year round, though it may go on my Christmas tree too.
I will have to hide Ellen's hand lotion and hand sanitizer or a certain granddaughter will leave my house with them. Kathy's granola will be a nice addition to a morning cup of yogurt. Thank you again ladies it was a super nice day.
So today I see they picked the Pantone color of the year.........I cannot even put it on my nice, bright, cheery, clear colors blog..............Marsala! Not one vote on my survey for it! It's a brownish red, all I can think of is dried blood.... I am sure there are people out there that will love it but I can never see putting it any place in my house, let alone wearing it. Okay maybe a lipstick? On second thought no way! Just my opinion, but then again I like lime green, caribean blue, aqua and hot pink, they surely did not have me in mind when they picked it!
Please tell me what you think about their pick!

I would call Marsala a pinky red with brown undertones. Another good name for it would be cinnabar. It makes me think of that brick red lipstick that you thought would look good but really has too much brown. Or the scrubs that the dental assistant wears. Not good connotations there! Well, there's always next next year!
ReplyDeletewhat great gifts! Sounds like a very successful Christmas lunch. Love your new quilt, its so cheerful and pretty.
ReplyDeleteHmmm the color is interesting thinking it would make a great barn in a barn quilt ,

Lovely finish on your quilt--hey--that background just looks like heavier snowflakes to me--I like it...such an adorable finish! Border is perfect....you do such nice work....that color might be a bit "Dark" feeling??? When I think of it I think of Jinny Beyer fabrics and quilts--I mean hers are beautiful, but in the darker realm, don't you think?? Just my thoughts...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteIn some pictures it has a little more spark in it, but yes, it is very drab. Love the little pin cushion especially.:)
ReplyDeleteI can truthfully say, there isn't a quilt that I've made where there isn't something I wish i could have changed. Just part of the learning curve, I guess. And I also have to admit, I do like the new color Marsala. Sounds like I might be the only one:0)
ReplyDeleteI love your happy Christmas Quilt!! Your gifts are so lovely, I think your pincushion lady needs a name, she's so sweet. Marsala is not a colour that I would've picked but then I haven't really liked the Pantone colour of the year the last couple of years but then after a while of seeing them used they grew on me.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks adorable, and no one will know about the ribbbons. ;) Nice goodies from your Bee friends. While I have used that reddish brown color, (like tree trunks) it would never be my choice for color of the year. Oh well I don't have to wear it or use it.
ReplyDeleteI'm in agreement with you about the color. I love both red and brown but this combination of the two went wrong somehow. At least you've got some cute pincushions to look at instead!
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas quilt is so happy and cheerful! Love it! Yes, there's usually something in each quilt I make that I wish I could do over or change somehow. Like you said, learning curve.
ReplyDeleteMarsala looks like raw chicken liver to me! It would make a good lipstick for a lady with auburn hair, maybe? Oh well, we can just ignore it for a year, can't we? We could even just pick our own favorite color and make it our personal "color of the year"! hee hee!
Great post, Kelly! Your quilt turned out os cute...I was just thinking today that I should make a Christmas quilt. I hadn't heard about the Pantone color. Hmmm....being a redhead, I can certainly wear it but decorate or quilt with it...doubtful.I like your colors better!
ReplyDeletemarsala - good on chicken, bad on quilts.
ReplyDeleteIt's not in my color family either. My dining room is mexican red, which is close, but better, ha ha.
love how your quilt turned out! The zippy red binding is perect.
What fun gifts, glad you had a good luncheon.
p.s. super super cute pincushion girl!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt and all your gifts are lovely! Love handmade treasures!
ReplyDeleteI think your quilt turned out great and such nice gifts. We have our luncheon next Wed.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is adorable! I also vote for your favorite colors over Marsala any day.
ReplyDeleteLove the Christmas quilt. So many cute blocks. Is there a pattern? where? I keep thinking some day I may do a Christmas quilt.
