Four years ago today I started blogging! It was one of the best decisions I ever made and has turned into a very enjoyable pastime. Man, that makes me sound old....you can read my first post HERE. I remember after I posted it changing things no less than 5 times, adding things and taking things out. It was only 1 paragraph long!
So instead of spending the day sewing I spent it watering the sod. It took almost 2 1/2 hrs to do the job. I am scared to death of being the one who kills it! I am taking my job seriously.
After the watering I had to go to the grocery store because we were out of everything. We ate very bad over the weekend, lots of crap and not healthy. I felt it yesterday and today.
This dog's name is Felony! |
Most of you may not know I am not a huge animal person. We never had pets growing up and my kids had fish and outside bunnies. I know very adventurous....Some of you probably are animal people and you will love this article. A friend of ours is a canine cop and will be retiring soon. He is still young and wants to have another "job". He will be working with dogs to sniff out cancer (ovarian cancer is on the list)and other medical conditions, how amazing is that. We had heard about dogs that sniff out blood sugar changes in diabetics but they are super expensive $10,000!
If you have ever seen a real police dog, it would scare the living daylights out of you. I never, ever, ever would like to be chased and caught by one of them. The ones I have seem are pure German Shepherds from Germany.
The article is in Philadelphia magazine. I also want to read this article on college and see the Fall Art preview...no they are not paying me and no this is not the giveaway....
A lot of people liked this quilt. It is already promised to my guild so I can't give it away. I will make another one for the winner of the giveaway, using whatever colors you like. Now mind you I don't have any reproductions or dark traditional colors. My palette is bright with clear colors, it's going to look more contemporary than traditional......I'm just saying. Think pink, blue, green, yellow, orange, aqua, red or black.....not really purple or brown.
So leave me a comment and tell me what is your favorite thing about Fall and be sure to tell me what color you want for a quilt should you win. The size of the quilt will be around 18 x 18 with a white background.
Good luck, I will pick the winner this Friday 9/5. This is open to everyone in the US or elsewhere.
Kelly
GIVE AWAY IS CLOSED.
I live onthe west coast of Canada and enjoy seeing the turning leaves in the foliage against the evergreens. Quite spectacular to see a red maple amongst the evergreens. The crisp blue skies and windy days. Sunflowers, pumpkins Canada geese honking and forming their flying V's and the full harvest moons. Skelton trees and foggy mornings...need I say much more. Enjoy the coming season and happy anniversary to you!

Happy Anniversary! Fall, or Autumn, as we call it in Australia is a welcome relief from the blistering heat of summer. I live in the Blue Mountains just west of Sydney and in Autumn the temperature drops gradually and the days are bright and shiny with cool nights. There are a lot of exotic trees in the Mountains and they change colour into beautiful reds, oranges and yellows as Autumn progresses. Its my favourite time of year! As for the colour way I would prefer, I love your bright blues and aquas so that would be my choice should I be lucky enought to win! Thanks for blogging Kelly. Its fun 'meeting' someone from the other side of the world without leaving home!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing so many wonderful ideas and much inspiration. Fall is a great time of year, great colors, cooler temps and the taste of pumpkin. Any of your bright cheerful colors would make an awesome giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHappy blogaversary! Fall = colorful maple trees, football games, marching bands, and my wedding anniversary-36 this year! Color - lime green, my favorite!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about fall is the cooler days, crisp mornings, baking an apple pie and rain. We really could use the rain here in drought-stricken California. Congrats on the blog anniversary! Colors I love...blues and purples. Thanks! akronne17 at gmail dot com

My favorite thing about fall is the change in the light - from the glare of bright summer sun to the beautiful soft gold light of autumn. Plus, apple pie! Blues and aqua are lovely.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 4 years! I agree with you, blogging is the best. Fall in Florida doesn't really happen until Nov, but it's such a reprieve from the heat! I love to spend the afternoons on the back porch. I would love a gray, yellow and maybe bright green if I'm chosen. Thanks so much for sharing your talents.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th blogiversary!! Ive enjoyed every one of your posts and look forward to many more!!! Fall is beautiful for the colours in the trees, and the cooler days after hot summer. If I was lucky enough to be the winner I'd pick aqua like the one you've made or just colourful and fun.
ReplyDeleteI knew done who's dog smelled cancer on her. It kept fussing around a spot on her leg which she finally went to checked out and everything worked out well due to early detection.
I love the Fall time of the Year with all the Painted Leaves in all the Colors God has Created... Picking Apples and biting into one so crisp, Apple Pies, Pumpkins and Fall Harvest from the Garden, the much cooler air and walking in the crunchy leaves as they dry... and Best of All September is my Birthday month... and Dogs make good Companion Animals.. I love Blues...
ReplyDeleteYou scared me..I thought you were getting a dog!!!! Good luck, with the sod: big responsibility, I love the crispy mornings and evening, decently warm days AND all the colors...can you imagine: the red leaves are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your Blogversary! I am one of those lovers of your hexi quilt. If I were to win--I would leave the colors up to you--I love all the bright and cheery colors you use anyway! Now that the holiday has past--I need to shop in too! Actually shop, clean and get back to sewing!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly,
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have to teach me how to leave a comment on the blog. I am always in awe of all your rapidly finished projects.
As to the Fall -- I know that all the plants are going into hibernation so I look for all the bright colors of the transition. The air seems to have a crispness to it.
Colors-- If I would be so lucky to win, I am partial to green but I like variety also.
Congratulations on 4 Fun Years!!!
Jean
Congratulations on your milestone! I admire all of you who put the effort out to blog. I just don't think I could keep it all going.
ReplyDeleteFall is my favorite time of year by far and it's hard to pin down my favorite thing about it. I love the cooler weather, the beautiful colors, the harvest time and baseball playoffs.
If I were to be lucky enough to win your generous giveaway, I would love to have red.
Congratulations on four years - I agree that blogging is a MARVELOUS way to connect with others! When I wrote my first post in July 2007, I had NO idea how much I would enjoy this community!
ReplyDeleteFavorite thing about Fall - living where we do, it would have to be the absence of so many 100 degree heat index days (meaning it is more pleasant to be outdoors).
Bright clear colors? Sounds fabulous to me . . . what fun and how very generous of you to offer this as a giveaway!
I love this! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how much these colors reflect the quilt from your first post. I love that blue bird quilt you made.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on four years of blogging.
I love everything about Fall, from warm colors to cooling air, smell of wood burning fire place, birds flying south and wind that blow the leaves off the trees.
Well, happy fourth anniversary! Living here in the desert the best thing about Fall is it brings the cooler temperatures. I love bright colors and thaks for such a nice giveaway.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteI love Autumn - cooler days, the changing colours. I'm not so keen on the shorter days though!

Congratulations on 4 years! That is a lot of blog posts. :) That is a beautiful quilt! If I win, could I have it in pink, blue, green and red? :) Thanks! sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about fall is the cooler weather and my quilt weekend retreat in October -- Pieceful weekend in Loudonville.
ReplyDeleteI love the hexagons -- and would want to have all of those colors you mentioned included -- the scrappier and brighter the better!
Kelly, the coment from Dana O'connor at danaeo413@gmail.com was actually from me. Sorry, Pat
ReplyDeleteKelly, your blog is the first one I started following! I love to see what you are doing and sewing. Fall in Georgia is wonderful! The leaves start to change and slowly filter down thru the trees. Such lovely colors! I've just started doing EPP and your hexagon quilt is lovely! If chosen, I would love to see one in blues, greens and yellows! jpatton55@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteHappy Blog Birthday! I love your Hexie Quilt! So cute with the white background and your colors never disappoint! I didn't know about your animal thing. I enjoy my friends dogs but I don't want the responsibility. A friend of mine once said, "I don't want anything that needs another thing from me!" and I agree! Also, I will outlive them and I can't take that. We had dogs and cats growing up but now I'm horribly allergic to cats.
ReplyDeleteI love Fall and it's hard to narrow it down to one thing, cooler weather, trees turning colors, pumpkin pie, quilt retreat!
I love our Fall in Lancaster County!! The cooler temps, the colors, pumpkin everything!! Apples, too! Congrats on 4 years! I look forward to reading your blog, and being inspired, for many more years!
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt- it's gorgeous! I will let you pick out your own color & fabric choices- I also love the clear, bright, cheery colors that you use!
I love your quilt. I would love one in any and all colors since I love scrappy. Congratulations on your blogging. I recently found your blog and enjoy it. I love everything about autumn...the sound of the geese...the smell of fallen leaves...Ursula Y.

ReplyDeleteLove traveling to AshevilleNC and seeing all the mountains in their color. I love quilts with fun primary colors and a pop of black. Love your pictures on your blog heading.
ReplyDeleteI love the tree changing colors and of course my birthday. I am turning 40 and am a bit excited! I love blues and mauves.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your blogging anniversary! I'm looking forward to enjoying many more of your posts. I truly admire your friend who will be working with dogs that can sniff out cancer. Pretty wild. One of my favorite things about Fall is that in the Jewish tradition it is a time of new beginnings, contemplation and reflection. If I should be the lucky winner my color palette would be blues and greens with a touch of yellow.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Kelly! Thank you for sharing your life and your love of family, quilting and gardening. Autumn to me is a time of new beginnings. I have so many wonderful memories of going back to school, meeting new teachers, learning new subjects and connecting with old and new friends. I love the smell of newly sharpened pencils, the feel of sweaters on my skin and the tapestry of colors out my windows. Autumn is my favorite season and this month we celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and a new beginning as we are now empty nesters. I'm very interested in finding out more about the training of the German Shepherds. I wonder if they need foster families. Thank you for the opportunity to receive one of your lovely quilts. I like blues and greens, but I've never been known to turn away from anything pink!
ReplyDeleteI love the crisp air, bright blue skies and the colorful leaves. If I should be lucky enough to be the winner, I would choose the quilt to be made in aqua :)
ReplyDeleteI love the favors of fall especially pumpkin! Since aqua is my favorite color that would be my choice. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteREDS WOULD BE BEAUTIFUL! LIKE YOU WORK!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th blog anniversary. Thanks for such a generous offer to receive a fantastic mini. I love the colors of blues, limes, aquas, turquoise and any of the greens in this spectrum.
ReplyDeleteI just love the Autumn. All of the fantastic colors of nature peak their heads all at once. I love to drive down the highway and see all of the brilliant colors the leaves have turned. The brilliant reds, the brite oranges, the amber and yellows, the lightened greens, oh may. Pumpkin and pomegranates. The settling of the season. The final song of the cacadidas. The gathering of the birds to discuss where they are headed next. I just love Fall.
