Mellow Yellow
Yellow-----SUNSHINE, WARMTH, HAPPY, CHILDLIKE, BRIGHT, TANGY.
Those were a few words I would use to describe the color yellow. So why do so many people dislike it? I am pretty sure most of my quilting friends do not like it. I love it but in small doses.
So if you like it, tell me some words you would use to describe it. If you don't like it why not?
If you are a local you can find this fabric at The Quilt Block in Exton. Go on you know you want some....

I like yellow. It's sunny and happy, just like you said. It's also my mother's favorite color, so I have good associations with the color, too. I do dislike orange, which is close to yellow (obviously), but I am trying to get over it -- partially by using more yellow-orange. :)
ReplyDeleteHi!!!! I love yellow too!!!! Also my Moms favorite color!!!!! Yellow sometimes....soft..buttery...wispy...zingy...tropical....cheerful and calming!!!! You know we rise to yellow sunrise and go to bed with the yellow moon!!!!!! What is not too like!!!!!! Love your yellow fabrics!!!!! Very pretty!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow!!! I've been thinking recently that I want to make an all yellow quilt, I think it would be like wrapping yourself in sunshine. I hadn't noticed that yellow isn't a popular colour.
ReplyDeleteI think yellow is a great punch color but orange is even better.
ReplyDeleteI really do like yellow but a little goes a long way in a quilt. Over half the walls in my home are a buttery yellow. I think you have some really good descriptions for the color!
ReplyDeleteHow about golden. I love yellow, it's my husbands favourite colour and I have wanted to make a yellow and white quilt for ages. Just can't make my mind up about the design. We also tend to paint our walls in buttery yellows and who can go past sunflowers, marigolds and yellow roses in the garden to name but a few?
ReplyDeleteI like yellow. It is a happy color and adds pop to a quilt. Love the fabrics you have pictured.
ReplyDeleteCheerful, sunny and uplifting.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
I've always loved yellow in quilts, esp. the warm buttery yellows. They are so cozy and friendly.:)
ReplyDeleteI love yellow ! I always seem to use up what I have, and need to buy more. I remember reading once, that when arranging flowers, adding yellow helps the other colors mix together. I think the same applies with fabric.
ReplyDeleteI was never a yellow person, not because I didn't like the color, but I could not wear it so I didn't ever think about it. When I started quilting I read a book about colors in quilts and it said to use yellow in very small amounts if at all. I however found myself liking lots of yellow in my quilts. Since becoming a quilter I love every color.
ReplyDeleteYellow does remind me of sunshine and summer and warm weather.

ReplyDeleteOk try again -- I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE yellow! I has been my favorite color for my entire life. If you look at any of the quilts on my blog you will see that almost all of them include a shade of yellow. I recently moved into a new house and spent a lot of time thinking about what colors I wanted to use. I did have the kitchen and my sewing room painted yellow but I went with yellow accents in the other rooms and I so happy with the result - who knew that taupe and yellow are would be so pretty? I don't understand when people say the yellow is hard to work with. I find that yellow complements all the colors. Yellow is the color of happy! So sew happy and use yellow!

ReplyDeleteI love yellow. Its in most rooms of my house. I cannot WEAR the color, but I drape my dwelling and heart with it. I think most people find it just too much. They are afraid of it, repelled by how close it gets to you. Poor them.
I like yellow too. It reminds me of warm sunshine, flowers (dandelions, daffodils and sunflowers!) and butter. What's not to like with those? I know a lot of people don't like yellow, and I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but I like it. I know it can be hard to find good yellow fabrics, but it looks like you did well! I just bought some yellow and white polka dots too!
ReplyDeleteIt's like budda
ReplyDeleteha ha
It's funny I hardly ever use it. I like the acidy chrome yellows in reproduction quilts. I think it's too bright for my personal pallet.
how snooty does that sound
Yellow is Cheerful, Yellow is a Spring and Summer Color, like you said in small doses... about the size of a Flower is enough...combined with white or green is definitely Summertime.... I like the Yellow Gingham Check fabric especially for summer accessories like table napkins or Baby quilts .....
ReplyDeleteYour color selection makes me SMILE. The other night while getting my massage I notice that my Zen friend's room had a calming yellow and thought that yellow in fabric would be calming in a quilt! Ok so tell me---how far is Exton from Cape May???
ReplyDeleteI love yellow and always have. My mom dressed me in yellow all the time because she thought I looked good in it.
ReplyDeleteFor years I've held yellow at arm's length, but recently, I've been adding it to the stash. This week it's looking particularly appealing as winter refuses to give way to spring!
ReplyDeleteI'm slowly curating some yellow for my stash. Actually, I find I'm more drawn to citron yellows or yellows that have been soften to almost white. I find yellow can overwhelm and be too intense, I think a little yellow goes a long ways. ;o)
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, I like it in small doses as a "hit" of color to brighten things up...but never to make a quilt with it as the main focus...yuk!
ReplyDeleteLove the yellows
ReplyDeleteOh yes, perky yellow. I wear it...my spring jacket is light yellow.....half of my walls are yellow....I used to live in a yellow house....I have lots in my stash....like other commenters, I'd love to make an all yellow quilt....I took that "What flower are you?" test one time and I'm a daffodil! Oh, I have loads of them in my yard, too!
ReplyDeleteLove it - daffy daffodil - which hopefully, we'll see some soon! I have one quilt backed with a bright yellow and it's my favorite!
ReplyDeleteWish I lived near that shop to pay a visit! Love, love, love yellow! It's warm... yes that's it. I'd way rather be too warm than cold. So warm and yellow is what works for me.
ReplyDeleteI love yellow and had been planning on someday making a yellow quilt. It is just so happy!
