I have a question out there for all of my readers.......do you still read blogs? What is your go to place for all things quilting/sewing?
I will admit I love Instagram. It's like eating M&M's easy and satisfying. Little bits. A very little time commitment.
I will tell you I very, very, very much dislike Facebook. Especially after the election (PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND ABOUT THE ELECTION AT ALL) everyone is so wound up and I can't take it so I hardly even look at it anymore, only when necessary. I think it is terrible that people are unfriending people, uninviting them to Thanksgiving and outright fighting! How did this happen that it is ok to do these terrible things? I think it has driven people apart more than bring them together, no thank you!
If I didn't need it for my quilt guild I would delete it all together. Where do all those people come from that I am not following?????? I also read that FB makes people feel more depressed......maybe all the comparison? I am seriously considering deleting everyone except the quilt guild that sends notifications about meetings etc.
Instagram on the other hand is so much better. Only the people I want to follow show up on my feed. I can have 10 or 1000, the choice is mine. It's easy to delete them if they show too many things I am not interested in. I also learn about so many new things, instead of people trashing each other. If they do start it is a simple delete.
I know many of you still love blogs and I do too.
I know I have been slacking.....
I totally forgot about these last 2 quilts, I really like them!
I talked to Barb of Fun with Barb about this when she was here last week. She also says the same thing about blogging.
So as you scroll through this rambling post I thought it would be fun to make it a picture heavy postof old pictures and you could skip reading it if you wanted and just look at the pictures (-: I really am going to try harder to blog but I will say sometimes I have nothing to show you!
Please feel free to leave your thoughts and ideas about all social media and quilting/sewing I would love to hear what you think!
Today is Friday and my family is celebrating Thanksgiving today. We started the tradition when they all started getting married and had to decide where to eat or eat at both family houses. I remember as a young mother how stressful it was lugging the kids to 2 houses and being uncomfortably full. This has worked out well for our family and ends up being a very lovely day with all my children, their spouses and all the grandchildren. It's a win-win!
Kelly
Good way to split the family, love the idea of Thanksgiving on Friday. No need to run anywhere. I like blogs, youtube and google for quilting stuff.
ReplyDeleteI use blogs and pinterest the most. I agree about Facebook. I use bloglovin' to keep track of all of the blogs I like to follow (like yours!)
ReplyDeleteI still like blogs and have enough of them that often when one comes up in the reader, I have to do a lot of catching up if it's been awhile since that particular blog has been at the top of the queue.
ReplyDeleteWhile it is clear that social media seems to be the prevalent form of reaching out now, I am not subscribed to any of it. I admit I prefer blogs because I enjoy getting to read about a project's process and you can't get that in the space of a Facebook or Instagram post.
Blogs are part of my morning routine. Love your projects. Cute!
ReplyDeleteI look at blogs most days. I have a blog for me, primarily as a log of my quilting and stitching projects. I don't do instagram, but I think that may be function of my age (54). I do look at facebook, primarily for th sewing and stitching sites, not to catch up with family. I rarely post anything there.
ReplyDeleteI get my sewy/quilty fix from blogs and from Pinterest. I'm not interested in Facebook, I don't tweet, I don't Instagram - I already spend too much time on the computer and if I joined those platforms I fear I would never get anything done :D I hope blogging doesn't go the way of the dodo bird because I'd quite miss the chats and pictures and inspiration - speaking of which, I'm quite fond of your reindeer!
DeleteOOps - somehow I replied to Laura's comment instead of to the blog post in general. Hi, there, Laura, lol!
DeleteBlogging is NOT dead - it takes more time and energy to blog than just clicking a photo on IG (which I do) but blogs also share stories (not just images with fragments of thoughts). I have made some incredible long-distance blogging friends, several of whom I have since met in real life. There is nothing better. LONG LIVE BLOGGING!!
ReplyDeleteI am not on instagram or facebook but I read blogs everyday! I have a long list that I follow and I read all the new posts except for when I'm really limited on my time. I get so much inspiration from blogs, plus I enjoy seeing all the lovely photos. I know that blogging has changed since I have been following blogs, but I still think it is a wonderful and useful medium.
ReplyDeleteI love blogs -- I enjoy not just the quilting inspiration, but also the photos of family, scenery, seasons, etc. Blogs provide the community that I have not found where I live. I read them every morning! Love your quilty pictures -- the reindeer is so cute! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love blogs! Instagram is fine for a quick look but I enjoy the longer format available on a blog. I appreciate tutorials, but I also like reading about the story of making that quilt--the inspiration, fabric pull, quilting choices...all that stuff you can't explain in just a couple sentences on one pic of instagram.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! I still love blogs and use pinterest. I just don't know that I can take on ANOTHER technology like instagram. My kids use it though so I may have to...Have a wonderful holiday!
ReplyDeleteSo much of what I learn about quilting comes from blogs. Really enjoy good tutorials and different creative projects. I follow some on Instagram, but prefer Pintrest. I do not follow anyone on Facebook and not into all that "too much information"!!! Enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteI like Instagram for the immediate gratification of the visual, but I prefer quilt blogs over quilt Facebook as I get one person's voice. I get one story. The noisiness of Facebook with the comments can defeat the joy of hearing and seeing one person's view of their world. And I can get away from my relatives election comments!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am fine with bloggers talking about politics--it is a personal platform and I appreciate that. And it is less likely to devolve into the back and forth that happens in Facebook.
DeleteKelly miro cada dÃa los blogs
ReplyDeletees mi medio favorito
miro Facebook selecciono lo que me interesa
y aparto lo que no me gusta
buen fin de semana
I'm still in the blogging camp, too. I don't have a local quilt guild, so it's my favorite "show & tell". I don't always have time to comment as much as I'd like, but I do appreciate quilting bloggers efforts to share and talk about their creative process. I'm staying off FB these days, as the fake news was getting too ridiculous. I do love Instagram - definitely instant gratification. I follow a lot of different folks on IG and all the lovely pictures help me make it though the work day! Thanks for the mini quilt show, too - several of the quilts you shared have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteI still really enjoy blogs. I enjoy the way people share their projects and ideas. And in the same vein as Instagram, I only get the posts from the blogs I am interested in. People are very generous and sharing via their blogs.
ReplyDeleteKeep blogging! I love to read blogs on bloglovin. Your quilts are great. Love the background on the vase with flowers. I also like Pinterest and instagram. I think you get more inspiration from a blog.
ReplyDeleteI still enjoy reading blogs! I follow them all on Bloglovin. I have never had a Facebook account and have no interest in it. I do love
ReplyDeleteInstagram also!
YES!! I do still love reading Blogs!! I don't do (& Never wiil..) FB, Instagram, etc etc stuff...I go to the Blogs (& YouTube too..) I know a lot of Blogs have ended for the Instagram & such...I miss them...but will keep following (& loving) quilty Blogs! :)
ReplyDeleteI certainly agree that blogs seem to be dying out. I have a small group of loyal followers so that's okay with me. IG is okay but I feel it is very fleeting- great for those with short attention spans, I guess! I love that house quilt with the black triangles around the edge!
ReplyDeleteI do Facebook and as a result have reconnected with my cousins. Once my mother died the connection such as it was was lost. I have now seen what cousins do, their kids!!! and their grands!!! pets!!! and vacations!!! all good. I have who can see my posts set to very few most of the time. When I started following Fiestaware group I was not so sure about letting all those folks "in on" my life, but there are ways to limit who can see. Then there came the quilt groups.... and for the most part all these groups are "closed" groups with leaders who actually check to see if a new person has any fiesta posts or quilting posts/pictures and if there is nothing then they are not "ok'd", etc.
ReplyDeleteI do not do Instagram as when signing up several times I get to the question / statement Instagram is going to look at your friends and use that info for what ever they want or some such. In the back of my mind I figure FB did the same way back when but I did not catch it and I don't like the idea that this group can look at the next group who will sell to a third group all with out me knowing the particulars!!! so no Instagram. There are blogs when someone links a topic in such a way that I can look without having to sign in or sign up and I like that just fine, etc.
I read blogs and enjoy them and learn from them but it is not the same as 5 years ago. I think the problem started when google stopped their reader service. The reader I went to worked well for a while but now won't add any new blog to my list. Then there are the bloggers who switch their programs and I lose track of them. I think writers get tired of writing and loose interest. The bloggers who are writing a journal for themselves seem to hang in there the longest. So many many many bloggers are in it to SELL something every time they post and those blogs add the least to the reading pleasure or add the most to my ability to skim fast.
I am happy that there are still many bloggers who blog. Since I use a reader to let me know if there is a post I have have no problem if the blogging is here and there or when the blogger has something to say and or "remember" for themselves in the future.
Thanks for the opportunity to think some about why I read blogs and to tell someone! Friends are not interested in blogs read today.
I am hot and cold on blogs depending on what is going on in my life. I love them though and feel like I missed a part of the bloggers life when I don't keep up. I joined FB only a year ago to participate in a quilt along and to keep up with my retreat group. It does seem to be a big time waster and I don't spend much time there. I love Pinterest but I don't do any other social media. I know blogging must take a lot of time but I sure enjoy reading them and seeing all the creativity out there. So, thanks for blogging!
ReplyDeleteMy mother started our family celebrating the Christmas holiday on Christmas Eve (or a day or two earlier) when I got married. We have kept the tradition for over 30 years. I remember having to lug my children to 2 homes and I talked with my former husband about us choosing each year whose house we would go to but not all of them on the same day. The holidays did become more fun after we could agree on that.
ReplyDeleteYes I read blogs. No I do not FB or Instagram.
I like blogs because I want to hear the story behind a photo. Instagram is OK but mostly for family photos. I don't do Facebook. I start my day checking up on everyone through their blogs and would really miss them if they weren't there.
ReplyDeleteHello! I too do not like much of the political commentary especially the all negative stuff. I however do enjoy FB as I have reconnected with many high school friends, -as well as my daughters and other family members. I really enjoy blogs and get lots of inspiration and entertainment from blogs. I have never tried instagram and use FB more for my friends and family. We had our whole family together for thanksgiving, first time in 5 years. We eat at 1, then they scatter to their other families. We also did a 5k that morning. Happy thanksgiving!
ReplyDeletePolitics is a tricky word, I have tried to be non comity L when reading, seeing hearing discussions about the recent process in the U.S. I've found it interesting reading what some of my American quilting friends have said on their Facebook pages and have chosen not to comment, like, dislike or whatever. I don't live in the U,S. So I can't really say what I would do if I was living there. It isn't my place as my experience as a visitor is much different.
ReplyDeleteI just hope the country can unite together and work to a positive working experience.
As to blogs I agree a lot have dropped off the map or are taking a breaks. I don't have a big following but I've never been a need to blog sort of blogger. If I have something to share I do, if not there are long gaps.
Same with my Instagram account. I'm with you following people I want to and if I make a bad choice after following them for awhile I stop. I also have blocked a few people especially the ones who want to to view a video message or think they can help me get more followers. I figure if you want to follow me your will if not, I probably will never know it!
Hope your family Tim was lovely today, your two new pieces are lovely. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Hello Kelly ! My point of vue is a French one but I agree with you for many points...
ReplyDeleteI love blogs and I have mine. It's an important and a real link between quilters. I have Instagram too and I love it for its confort. I subcribed FB 3 months ago because lots of friends asked me to do it but I'm a little bit disappointed because so many nastiness and stupidity.... I just love groups on FB.
I hope this will help you.
I wish you a lovely WE with your family !
Kelly I love your blog because it is more than just a picture. I like hearing about your projects and the connection to your life. Also quilting tips and Links are always appreciated. I don't expect you to blog if you don't have anything to share. Just know that when you do it is appreciated and enjoyed. I have also read other blogs that you have mentioned. I also like Instagram and Pinterest. Thank you for all your past blogs and any you choose to do in the future! If you enjoy blogging without the pressure of expectation, then you should do it because you're good at it.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE blogs and read them for the stories, the inspiration behind the items created. I have an Instagram account but don't check in as often there. It is one thing to see the pretty pictures on Instagram but it is not enough...I tire of it quickly. I want to hear about the artist's decision making process in how he/she selected the fabric, the pattern, the challenges, the joys. It is about the person behind the blog...not just the projects.
ReplyDeleteI hate FB. I have an account only because two of the quilting guilds I belong to use it for messages and signing up for membership events and classes. I've also noticed a tendency for some quilt stores to use it instead of putting their classes and events on their website. That seems like a mistake to me as I get frustrated and won't hunt for classes that way. I'd drop FB in a heartbeat if these groups stopped using them.
Thank you for your blogging!!
I definitely favor blogs, and miss many of the ones I used to follow. I guess they've gone to Instagram, and I haven't caught up with them. I, too, really dislike Facebook, I never post there, and only read it occasionally. I keep hoping that the bloggers that I follow won't abandon their blogs.
ReplyDeleteI follow several blogs regularly, and try others now and then, and will keep doing that as long as there are interesting blogs. I like to have words with my pictures! I tend to avoid the blogs that are loaded with ads that slow the process, or that routinely push or emote about their sponsor's products. I use Facebook sparsely to keep up with friends and family, but have no interest yet in the other social media options. I used to check The Quilting Board daily, but since they discontinued the daily reminder I rarely go there anymore.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm drawn to blogs that tell the stories behind the quilts - the decisions made to reach the final product, lessons learned, etc. I also enjoy reading perspectives on the quilting life, and tips on better/easier ways to do stuff. Instagram is great for the visuals, and Pinterest is sometimes (it's getting way too many ads,) but if a quilter enjoys expressing him/herself in words, then that's great. I can tell when a blogger is writing simply to push a product or to fulfill some social media agenda, and will skip them.
ReplyDeleteI start my day with a cup of coffee and my favorite blogs and it's a perfect way to ease into the day. I abhor fb, it creeps me out. I stayed off of it until last year when a small scattered group of sewing friends got together there. It's an invitation only group so no one else can access us. Instagram is okay but I also like words and getting to know people.
ReplyDeleteI love your house quilt! Blogs are inspiring... thank you for sharing and please keep blogging. :-)
I enjoy blogs the most, though I don't have one myself. I don't do Facebook at all. I only recently started looking at Instagram and I enjoy the pictures ...but blog posts are always more interesting to me. I'm grateful to the people who write blogs and share so much of their quilting and lives with us ...
ReplyDeleteI love blogs. You get more than a simple photo. You get words. Content. Conversation. A tutorial now and then. Laughs. Etc. Dont think you can even compare Instagram to a blog ot FB.
ReplyDeleteKelly, Happy Thanksgiving! What a good idea to celebrate Friday. :) I love blogs. I don't have facebook or instagram. However, if you or any of my other favorite bloggers do switch over to just instagram, I will start. I get all of my quilty inspiration and knowledge from blogs, and sometimes from books -- I've never taken a class or gone to a retreat, or go to quilt fabric stores for the most part -- it's all blogs. :)

I'm on Instagram and Pinterest. I don't do Facebook anymore, I deleted my account three years ago and never looked back. I still read blogs, I still like to see what people do and how they do it, it never gets old to me. I still comment on blogs (not as much), especially if I already liked or commented on IG. I still "blog" from time to time, when I have something to share.
ReplyDeleteI too feel that the interest in quilting blogs have diminished; I am not sure exactly why but I think like everything else after a while things get to a plateauing state, the excitement and fascination of the beginning dry out. Things come and goes. I feel a decline on IG as well, am I the only one?? I started blogging at the beginning of 2014 (so I'm still relatively new compare to others), and even back then, I began to hear people say; “It's not like it used to be,” so I'm not sure what it means ... How was it before??
Great post. I still read some blogs but have found it harder to post. IG is just so easy. But I would hate for it to go away. And I totally agree with FB.
ReplyDeleteBlogs are still by far my favorite! I hardly ever post on mine but hope to get back to a steady rate soon. Just busy lately. I don't always read every word... but I read more if it's about quilting.
ReplyDeleteYour projects are so fabulous. I love those two red white and blue quilts you somehow forgot!!! And the reindeer is super cool. Do you know the pattern or book it came from?
Please keep blogging!
Well, you have an awful lot of comments which should tell you it's still our format.
ReplyDeleteI like a peek into the whole person, which I got more of today. So I like blogs. I like pages to refer to and words. I love blogs and from what I see I'm not alone in that. Why question it?
I so enjoy getting a glimpse into your life. I suspect you wouldn't share all you do on instagram. It's just so different. It's like, a pill to fill you up instead of eating a meal.
I do NOT do FB. I won't. I dislike the whole concept. I also am not attracted to Instagram. Too short. That's me.
Do YOU enjoy blogs? Do YOU visit others? That's the question since we are here and reading we enjoy them. I LOVE the community I've developed over the years of getting to know people through my blog. People who have become more friends than some people in my guild. I sure plan to continue blogging.
LeeAnna
We split Thanksgiving too. Thursday was with the in-laws and today (Saturday) is with my children and their families at my youngest daughter's house. It works out nice and I don't have to cook...lol. I really enjoyed seeing all of your quilts. You are a very prolific quilter. I'm a new follower and hope you continue to blog. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI love blogs and Pinterest but hate Facebook too. I start out every day reading the blogs I follow with my morning coffee.
ReplyDeleteI love blogs. I don't have the technology to do instagram. I also don't like all the extra stuff on facebook. I try to limit that. I hope all you fun people do not give up your blogs.
ReplyDeleteI do not Instagram or Facebook and never have. I do sit down every morning with a cup of tea and a list of favorite blogs I check every day.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy blogs. I find them more interesting and intimate. Almost as if we were having a nice friendly visit. Instagram is fun for short and sweet. I must admit I'm not a big Facebook person.
ReplyDeletetracinecharest at Gmail dot com
LOVE blogs. I am an experienced quilter, so I don't need to see tutorials on how to do things, but in the best blogs I find I learn about the artist and their process, what decisions they make and why. I like Facebook for friends, but NOT for quilt stuff. Instagram and I are just getting to know each other, and I LOVE Pinterest. Ideas, variations, fun!
ReplyDeleteI love reading the blogs of people I follow. I enjoy seeing what others are making even if I'm in a slump. Politics don't belong in the same sentence as quilting! I love all your pictures, their so pretty. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteI like IG for a quick fix but blogging for more details. Plus I find that a lot of people who aren't quilters are following my IG feed and I think I look quilt obsessed to them, which I am, lol. I think my blog readers are there because they have a commitment to quilting.
ReplyDeleteI like IG for a quick fix but blogging for more details. Plus I find that a lot of people who aren't quilters are following my IG feed and I think I look quilt obsessed to them, which I am, lol. I think my blog readers are there because they have a commitment to quilting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a thought provoking post. As we have discussed we agree on all things quilt related, ha ha
ReplyDeleteThe one thing you didn't touch on is the monetization of blogs and also sponsorships. some are so full of ads and pop ups I can hardly read them.
I always enjoy your posts and I'm so glad that you still willing to put in the time and effort!
Blogs and bloggers are really my current source of what's new, what's not, and inspiration. FB, no. IG is nice for a quick look, but I wouldn't follow half the people I do if I didn't have a connection through a blog. Otherwise, it's just a photo without a story or a group of people without meaning. I appreciate you taking the time to share your stories.
ReplyDeleteI love blogs and youtube for all things quilty. As a retired school librarian, I have a very negative toward FB. I don't do any of the social media and intend to keep it that way. My family and friends share in person or in email and this is just fine by me. I find it especially upsetting when a quilt shop, quilt group, or quilters (or lots of other businesses) only do facebook or some other social media because that leaves out a lot of us who really appreciate their work and would like to see/share it.
ReplyDeleteWhen Google Reader died, I switched to Feedly and it works quite well. The developers are constantly making changes and that has improved it greatly.
I follow lots of excellent quilt bloggers and I sincerely hope they will continue the extra work and time it takes to maintain a blog. I applaud and appreciate each and every one of them!
I enjoy your blog - a lot! Thank you for investing your time and talents, it's a treasure. I share you sentiments regarding FB so find bloggers so refreshing. Also love your inspiring quilt photos as we have similar approaches to use of color and textures. Please be encouraged to blog on! Happy thoughts from Oregon...
ReplyDeleteI still love blogs and am sad that some that I really enjoyed have stopped blogging. I do understand that it is time consuming and hard to keep up with. It is still my favorite way to look at quilts online. I guess I need to start looking at instagram more if that is the way things are going. I do not like Facebook either and it is not a good way to see quilts. I enjoy your blog and your time is much appreciated, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI still read and enjoy blogs, Instagram and FB, each for different reasons. Blogs provide more information and insight from quilters and travelers and thinkers (the three categories of blogs I follow regularly;) Instagram gives me a quick fix of fun and inspiration; FB keeps me connected with my far-flung family and friends. I do have to remind myself to lead the life I want to lead and not let the outside noise from anywhere make me feel that I should be something more or something different. So keep on blogging, Kelly. I love having a little window into your colorful quilts and your colorful life. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBlogs do seem to be going by the wayside, but there are still quite a few that I follow. Personally, I prefer instagram for the reasons you stated. I do appreciate those who still keep up these blogs because they are more 'chatty'.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE reading quilting blogs-they seem so friendly and I love learning about other Quilter's likes and projects.
ReplyDeleteYour post has certainly hit a nerve with many of us. I still love spending time with my favorite quilting blogs while I enjoy my morning coffee, though I agree the neighborhood has evolved to a much different place in the last few years. My own posting has slowed because, well, it's work, but I intend to keep it active. Thanks for a very interesting post!
ReplyDeleteReading my favorite quilting blogs is the way I start each morning. I just recently started checking out Instagram, but blogs are by far my favorite way to see what all the other quilters are making and sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteQuilt bloggers are my favorite reading and inspiration. I like Pinterest, have never done FB, and still think about IG but haven't succumbed yet. I appreciate the work that goes into blogs--thoughtful content, beautiful photographs, and especially the sharing about process and problem solving--and try to show that in my comments and by joining in swaps and sew-alongs. What else can readers do to thank you all for what you do and to keep this a vital exchange?
ReplyDeleteI love reading quilting blogs. Bonnie Hunter has to be the queen of blogs. Her posts are more than quilting - they are a slice of life. With so many people moving and not feeling connected, reading the morning blogs are a way to stay connected with a community. They are the first thing I read every morning - then the comic pages - I've given up on the front page (too depressing). I also like to skim Pinterest. But blogs are my morning go-to. thanks for yours!
ReplyDeleteEvery day I start the day reading blogs, mostly about quilts. I love it. I do not like facebook and do not know instagram. Love the pictures in this post. Greetings
ReplyDeleteI read blogs EVERY morning and love them...I don't do Facebook or instagram--too electronic for me. I like reading complete thoughts, ideas and inspirations.. your blog has been and is beautiful...thanks for sharing hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI still read blogs and have a list of bookmarks that I use to follow my favorites. Over time I have had to put them in folders (Blogs, Blogs2, New Blogs,Once in While Blogs) or I would be spending my whole day reading blogs. This way I follow some every day some every few days some once in a while.
ReplyDeleteI read blogs. I don't do facebook or instagram. I have my favorites bookmarked I check everyday. And have many that I follow through e-mail. I enjoy my first cup of early morning coffee while ready blogs. Blessings, Gretchen
ReplyDeleteYes, still blogging and still reading blogs (maybe not commenting as often - oops!). Don't enjoy Facebook and do try to Instagram, but not regular with that. I like that blog posts are more detailed. Some Instagram posts are more like blog posts with their wordy-ness and makes me wonder why they aren't blogging instead!
ReplyDeleteI am still reading blogs and yours is one I always enjoy. I use FB some but rarely post. I am a member of some quilt groups on FB and it seems a way to keep up with others. I don't know enough about Instagram to say - tried it a little but was not sure of how it was working. I don't keep my blog up well and only feel that there are a very few who read it so sometimes you wonder what's the use but it helps me keep up with what I've accomplished and a timeline in my quilting world. That was a great question you put out there!! I'll just keep reading whenever you put up a post - always such interesting quilts that you make!
ReplyDeleteI love blogs.....I learn a lot about sewing and quilting. Sometimes when there is not time to read it all, I enjoy the 'eye candy'. If it were not for the grandchildren post on facebook I would also delete it. Never got involved in instagram. Keep the post coming on blogs....
ReplyDeleteI love Instagram because I like to see all the creative things people make. However, I think during the election and following there were people who were mean to each other and I don't like that. I haven't looked on Facebook much for the last 6 months and am considering not following it at all because of the insanity and cruelty that people wreak on each other. I love Blogs. I don't have one but I truly enjoy seeing what others make. I also like when blogs create tutorials for those of us who need specific directions. Don't give up on your blog cuz' we would miss you and all your creations.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comments about blogs and social media. I love to read blogs and I enjoy blogging but it is a lot of work and time. I don't always have the time to enjoy blogs the way I used to. There are fewer and fewer to keep up with though. FB has become so political that I get nervous every time I check to see what's going on. I do love instagram and I still enjoy pinterest on occasion. I always enjoy your posts and your blog, thanks for continuing to take the time to share.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteKelly, I read every word you write on your blog and a few others' blogs. It's fun to read about and see what others are making. It's so wonderful that so many share with us this way. I have never done Facebook, tried Instagram and got lost on Pinterest and couldn't find my way back. Hey, I'm old fashioned, I actually read paper magazines! Thank you for your blog, I really enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteYou stirred a nest!
ReplyDeleteI also still like blogs & blogging. Like you, I have gotten lazy about posting, I am also lazy about commenting. For that reason, I don't feel neglected when readers stop by, but don't leave a line. I don't do Facebook, but I am on Instagram. Also like you, I enjoy it for it's candy-like nature, but like candy, it doesn't stay with you like a good blog post. Funny to think of blogs as 'permanent'.
Short answer: no, I don't think blogging is dead.
I'm a little late in replying while getting ready for Thanksgiving. I follow quite a few blogs, both cooking and quilting. I learn SO MUCH from them and would feel so sad if they went away. I agree that FB got downright ugly with a lot of name calling and general bashing. I love Instagram, it is quite inspiring and generally happy. I originally signed up for FB to actually "meet" my cooking friends from my Cooking Contest website who we all only knew by name until then. PLEASE don't stop blogging Kelly! Your pieces are so cheery and beautiful (and I love seeing your family too).
ReplyDeleteI use feedly to read blogs and never use Facebook to read quilting things. Sometimes I look at pictures that are posted by some of the big quilt sites, but that's about it.
ReplyDeleteTiming---Funny how you posted this now. I went on a Blogcation for the summer months and then it turned out to run into the fall as well. I posted about this the other day. No matter how you cut it I/G is easier and faster however it lacks the personal feel to me. For me--I will continue to blog however it may not be as often. I am finding that the "need to keep up" with posts becomes stressful--so for now--I plan to cut down on what stresses me and find the joy in what I make. That does not mean I will not share on the blog but I do not want to feel obligated. I wish there was a way to post all in one shot--I/G and blog & F/B (I prefer private pages). Without blogs I would have never meet you! Thank You Blogland
ReplyDeleteI love reading blogs! They're extremely personal and I feel as though I actually "know" the reader without meeting him/her. I do believe Instagram is a wonderful platform for sharing ideas and could be seen as a the shorter version of blogs; however, Instagram does not replace blogs by any means! Hope that makes sense. I thoroughly enjoy reading your blogs and following you on social media -- please don't stop!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I loose a friend when some bloggers stop blogging. Maybe I am a stalker but I thoroughly enjoy reading blogs. It is just so nice that you are willing to share parts of your life with us,... total strangers... 😊. Instagram is great and so are blogs! I hope you continue sharing with us!
