How's this for a bright and happy quilt? The rows are not sewn together yet and I am excited to get it quilted.
My granddaughter Maddy made this yesterday. I spread out a bunch of solid fabrics and told her to pick out 2 fabrics she liked for each row. She very much took her time deciding (can that be hereditary?). I cut out a strip and then she cut out the rectangles with scissors. You will be so proud of me that I did not at all tell her to change any of her colors. The orange and blue (3rd from the bottom) made my teeth hurt but now that it is in the quilt I love it.
It was fun to see an 8 year old pick her colors and why. She was very particular about how the rows were to be sewn together and packed up the rectangles in order of sewing.......I can't wait to do this with my grandsons too.
I will be putting this to the front of the line to get it done. I am pretty sure I am going to make more of these pretty quilts.

Things are in safe hands ! ( thank you Google traduction).
ReplyDeleteBravo Maddy ! You're an artist !
She did such a great job! I think kids have fewer rules ingrained.
ReplyDeleteThis is so precious. I love how she has put her colours together. It's wonderful that kids just follow their hearts rather than following rules.
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea ! I wish my grandkids were around to make quilts with me !
ReplyDeleteBut HOW BIG is it ?
I absolutely love Maddy's quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project for kids! I wish I lived closer to my grandkids to do this with them...it is a very happy quilt! How big is this?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, even if I didn't know Maddy designed it, I would not change one single thing in her quilt. It could hang at MOMA! Perfect visual weight, proportion of colors, dynamic. I'm in love!
ReplyDeleteDelightful! Maddy has a great eye for color and value! I look forward to seeing more!
ReplyDeleteWow! Love it. Very artful.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteShe made great color choices. What fun to watch her pick colors and how she put them together. (The blue and orange looks fine to me...of course my girls high school colors were blue and orange and they both went to the U of I, same colors again. It grows on you. LOL ).
ReplyDeleteI love this!!! Excellent colour choices and so wonderfully wonky.
ReplyDeleteShe made a wonderful little quilt! That was such a good idea. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteMaddy made great color choices, according to the color wheel, orange is the complementary color for blue. She's got a great eye for color. I think that unless Maddy was going for an "art quilt" I'd tell her it's a great quilt! And it is!
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful art quilt - maddy did just a great job picking her colors. Blue and Orange are complimentary colors so she has perfect color theory :)
ReplyDeletegood job Maddy!!
What a free spirited quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove the comment about your teeth hurting! LOL
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be wonderful and your grand daughter is truly blessed to have such a kind a patient quilter to teach her. And yes, it probably is hereditary!
I'm so impressed! Maddy did a super job and I love her little quilt! She's got a great eye for color and proportion.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought here: are you going to have her put a little hand stitching in also?
