"Make New Friends.......

but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold" That was a girl scout song from way, way, way back when. I wonder if they still sing that one?

I am always on the lookout for vintage fabrics (old friends). At quilt shows I find great selections.

The colors and....

the prints. They are just so charming.

I would like yardage of this one. Notice though how open the weave is, care is needed when sewing with these. That is not a stain but another fabric underneath.

Now enter my scrap baskets of neutrals (new friends). Boy these do come in handy at times.

So that's the plan, mixing my old and new fabrics to make a bow tie quilt.

I like the juxtaposition of using these fabrics.

The plan is to make 100, yes there is enough fabric for 100 of them and no repeats!  All the bowties will be in vintage fabrics and the background will be new fabrics. I need to take a project to a get away this fall. This will work, no math is involved and it is simple sewing. If it is too complicated I can't sew, eat and talk all at the same time!

Today we are having the most beautiful weather imaginable for August. It's 70, sunny and breezy, I am feeling a little chilly! I went into the sewing room and the wind blew all my squares everywhere. I heard some places this morning were in the upper 30's!

I will leave you with this.....jalapenos soaking in Tequila. This weekend is our neighborhood block party, yes all 3 neighbors (haha) get together every year and we have a great time. We do invite others or we wouldn't be able to play volley ball!
These jalapeno infused tequila is for a cocktail (I love that word) called Jalapeno Spiced Paloma Cocktail. There is grapefruit juice and some other things in there that could be good. I will let you know.
Oh and there will be lanterns (the kind that float up in the air) this year. I will try and get a picture.
Have a great weekend!

Kelly

  2. They were still singing it when my girls were in scouts. Of course they are grown now, so.... The vintage fabrics with modern backgrounds are really pretty. I usually mix all kinds of fabrics, but for some reason I never think to combine 30's repos with anything else. It works!
Have fun at the neighborhood party. Can't wait to hear about the cocktail.

  15. As always, you have the best stuff to share. I hope you're happy that you've now gotten that "Make New Friends" tune to play (and play) in my head... in a round, no less! :-) I'm glad you like the vintage-y stuff. I'm not fond of it, but I appreciate the attraction and charm it holds for you. By now you've had your "big" block party. Hope it was a blast, and that no one regretted drinking those jalapeno cocktails. I bet they were wicked!
