Graduating from Potholders to Pillows

I have been doing a teeny bit of sewing, it feels like cheating a little bit. With my daughter's wedding only a few weeks away I have been busy getting my house ready for my sister, her husband and their 4 children who will be staying with us. We have plenty of room but I spent 3 days cleaning 2 of them. It entailed hauling a bunch of stuff to Goodwill and still the closets are stuffed!

I bought these quilted pieces, that must have been used as cutter quilts, years ago at a quilt show. As I was digging around for something else I came across these. All I did was make an envelope pillow with added binding and stuck a pillow form inside. I like the polka dots around the edge. It is very stuffed because the squares were not square! This color combination reminds me of my friend Cynthia, I kept thinking about her the entire time I was sewing them together. She loves red and blue together.

These were 3 little blocks and the circles are a little oblong rather than circular. Some of the blades are frayed but I kind of like that.

I put them together with a more modern looking pillow and like the contrast of the old and new.

Here is the other room with more antique pillows that mix nicely, love that chenille. I feel a little bit like Martha today!

  9. That bed looks so cozy - the pillows are adorable! I bought a body pillow & haven't used it at all. Wouldn't it be cute with a cutter quilt cover, too?
