Charming! is the theme of this week's diary block. We are attending a wedding this weekend and I was deciding what jewelry I was wearing with my dress. As I dug through my massive amounts of jewels ( :
I decided on the pearl necklace.
I also came across my charm bracelet from back in the day. These were very popular when I was growing up in the 1960's and '70s.
This charm was given to me by my parents when I graduated from 8th grade in 1971. I even remember the dress because I made it, pink chiffon.
Growing up my father traveled all over the world for business. Once he had to be in California for 2 months. He brought me back this charm for my birthday. The little rhinestones all fell out over time but it is still one of my favorite ones.
I took ballet for about 11 years and loved every minute of it!
I am Irish!
My first Holy Communion, circa 1965. This is probably one of my first charms.
This was for my 18th birthday from my boyfriend, now husband Bob.
My very brief stint as a cheerleader in 1971.
I glued on the bracelet and attached the charms with jump rings and glued them as well.
It was fun to look at my charm bracelet again and remember things from long ago. I know there are newer versions of charm bracelets out there now that don't "jingle" at all. The jingle does remind me of days gone by and grandmothers but hey, I am one now too! I think I like the jingle.
PS I am not getting my nails done for the wedding!
Kelly
Charming! I had one too,, with baby shoes wirral my birthstone and a little cake that you could push up a candle. Nice memories and nails!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, Love today's block, love your walk through memory lane! Favorite is the two hearts on the park bench, too cute! I have a charm bracelet, too - one from my youth (like yours), and one that was my grandma's, with heart charms for all of her grandchildren. I now have my charm, plus my children - hopefully grandchildren in the future! btw, both of my bracelets jingle! :)
ReplyDeleteI have two charm bracelets. One from my youth and one my sister made me a couple of years ago. I like the jingle.
ReplyDeleteOoopsss. Forgot to say love the block. It was fun seeing your charms and hearing a bit about them. Your hand is so cute!
ReplyDeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteThis post is as charming as your charms. How nice to have all those childhood memories for keepsake.
Wish my nails were as pretty like yours.
:)
I had one of those bracelets also. I kinda like the jingle too. Being in love with silver jewelry I even have a bracelet with silver bells. Great block!
ReplyDeleteI also received a charm bracelet in the 60's. I got it for my 16th birthday. (1966 - I'm a little older than you.) My husband and I have done a lot of traveling and I always buy a charm to commemorate the trip. I also have other memorable events like moves, son's marriage, birth of grandchldren, etc.I have a little notebook that I jot down the description of the charm and what it commemorates. I am saving it for my granddaughter's 16th birthday. (I only have 1 granddaughter, so that's easy.) It is so full of charms, I'm not sure how I'm going to get another one on it, but I will! It has become a "silver" journal of my life.
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet memories. Now I am going to go find my charm bracelet from 1966.
ReplyDeleteYour diary block is terrif. I don't know how you keep coming up with such great ideas week and after. Very impressive and very creative
What a nice keepsake for special memories!
ReplyDeleteWhat a very fun idea.
ReplyDeleteI love my charm bracelet, and still wear it. I love your block, too!
ReplyDeleteAnother brilliant block! Charm bracelets are so wonderful. I love the way your charms each have a story. How sweet is it that you have one from Bob from your 18th birthday!! Have fun at the wedding!
ReplyDeleteLove the block and thanks for taking the trouble to share about each charm. My parents bought a charm bracelet for their eldest grand-daughter (my DD) 26 years ago but she has never worn it as her wrists are still too skinny and it falls off!
ReplyDeleteI love my charm bracelet too, it hasn't nearly enough charms though. Your blocks are always fabulous and fun, love this one.
ReplyDeleteCharming post...I always wanted one of those bracelets when I was little and my husband recently gave me one. It is a bit bare compared to yours! Love your block as usual...
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Kelly! Thanks for sharing a bit of your life with us...and now I know how old you are! ;) ...younger than me!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Loved seeing some of your charms. I have charms too, but a few years ago I had TWO bracelets made into a necklace! I think a blog post about my charms is in order! I'll link back to your post.
ReplyDeleteOOOH I love this!
ReplyDeleteI didn't have a charm bracelet growing up, but I've made up for it in my adult years :)
xo
great block and hand!!
