Diary Quilt Block 1 |
So for this one the first thing that the word "birthday" suggests to me is cake, balloons and when I was little, every girl wore a party dress to any birthday party.
Another thing I want to do is to try and not just write on the quilt, that is not to say that won't happen! A part of the reason to do this is to try and be aware and more creative. I have some old tape measures and decided to use them to put on my birth date. I think it worked out pretty well.
Here is a "vintage" picture of me when I was 3 in a party dress. I can remember hating that dress. The petticoat scratched at the waist, but as you can see it was polka dots! I loved the dress for that and that alone! Gee what's with those bangs???
Last night was our holiday party at Penn Oaks Quilt Guild. We are also celebrating our 25th anniversary. Every member got a pin as a gift, we played strip quilto (like bingo) ate some yummy snacks and had a good time. Congratulations Penn Oaks!

Happy Birthday Kelly! Over the weekend I had a gal pal brunch, and more than one mentioned hating crinolines under party dresses! My mom used to trim my bangs like that too. :)Great first quilt block, creative to use the tape for the numbers. Merry Christmas!

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Kelly! I think the diary quilt you've decided to tackle is going to be awesome. A lot of work and diligence, but totally awesome. What a legacy about yourself you're creating. I'm sure future generations will admire and be impressed by what you've done. A great start!

ReplyDeleteI wish you the most happiest of birthdays! Your block is inspired. Love the tape measure date. You've got it going on girl, bangs, itchy petticoat and all. I can so relate. I'll have to send you a similar picture of myself in my polka dot dress & bangs.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! A little late, but that's me. I love your block - great elements and that date done with the tape measures is so cool! I love your old photo too - I think we all had those silly bangs back then. Must have been a fad? I have a similar picture of myself too. I'm only a few years older than you. Great way to start your personal new year!
