KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE MY BLOW DRYER RUN!

Miscellaneous Tuesday

I usually can figure out any pattern and end up with halfway decent results. This was not this case with this zip bag. It was supposed to be more of a pouch but it did not turn out that way.

Once this happened I gave up, ripped out the mess and turned it into a pouch. The strawberry fabric was too cute to waste, not to mention all those Tula Pink ladybugs lined up perfectly.....that will never happen again!

I did also make some more pincushions, I loved fussy cutting these!

Friday my grandson Elliot came over for the day. We played games and did arts and crafts the whole day. We both needed a birthday card and made these colorful little gems.

I am finally able to show you the baby quilt I finished for my niece Jordan who is having a baby in May. We seem to have an endless supply of babies, I love it!

Pincushions

Two of the guilds that I belong to are getting ready to have their major fundraising events for the up-coming year. I always contribute my time and make/donate things to help out. Pincushions are fun for me to make and something every sewer/crafter can use.

As with all groups there are the doers and well, those that take a more laid back approach! I am going to get on the soap box and say, your guild is only as good as everyone's participation. I am not saying you have to be in charge of the major fundraising events but doing nothing is not acceptable either. In order for a guild to stay vibrant everyone needs to help out and take turns. Different people with different ideas also make it more interesting for everyone.

The next thing you know people get grumpy and cranky, not a good idea for people who have rotary cutters! Even if you can only participate in a small way, please do so, all those little things add up. Ok I 'm done.

I think cat things sell well and this fabric has just come out, it is called Tabby Road by Tula Pink. I got mine earlier when I was in Houston before it was released to the public. The black and white is a Cotton + Steel.

The backs also sport new and cute fabric.

Why do things just look cute all lined up? These will be available at the Penn Oaks Quilt Guild Quilt Show For the Love of Quilting IX. May 5th and 6th, 2017 at Griffith Hall at the Ludwig's Corner Fire House in Glenmoore  PA, (on Pottstown Pike).
We are a very small guild only 58 members but we have an awesome show, complete with vendors, raffle baskets, mini raffle quilts and food. You can also email me Kellymx@aol.com and I will be happy to answer any questions.
For more information and directions, you can go to our website at Penn Oaks Quilt Guild
I hope if you are nearby you will come and see us!

Orla Kiely Inpsired Quilt

I bought this purse a few months ago and I love the pattern on it. It is by a British designer named Orla Kiely. From the start I felt like this could be a quilt pattern......

I also love this quilt by John Q Adams, (I too wonder if his name is John Quincy.....) I think his is paper pieced and I did not want to do that.

Last week Victoria Gertenbach from The Silly Boo Dilly did a workshop and lecture at Calico Cutters. She talked about shot cottons and why she liked them. I have to say I was smitten! This is yet another reason to join a guild if you haven't already, the inspiration in endless!

For those of you that may not know, a shot cotton is fabric made with 2 different colors. The warp and the weft are each different giving you a very rich looking fabric with a lot of depth. As you can see above a turquoise and a black were used here.

So I took all those ideas and things I showed you and started a quilt. I am calling it Sprouts on this snowy, wintery day. Victoria encouraged everyone to grab their scissors and fearlessly cut without rulers and see what happens. I have never been afraid to do that and loved seeing how these fabrics came to life.
I even cut the stems with scissors, you would be surprised how easy it is to cut things pretty close to the same width. I am not changing them and they will be "off" a little bit but I am ok with how it will look, in fact I like it even more.

The colors are washed out from the glare of the snow but in real life the colors are nice and rich. I even have purple in there, my least favorite color!
So that is what is on  my design wall today. It's snowing again but you don't need to see a picture of that 😆

Snow Day!

How cool are these? My friends, Leslie, Ellen, Stephanie and I made these for our quilt show that is coming up in May. Helen another member embroidered the centers and did a fabulous job.
The show will be held Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th, 2017. For more information you can click on this link Penn Oaks Quilters Quilt Show
We would love to see you and I think you will enjoy seeing all our quilts!

Thank you Helen I think they are the cherry on top!

My barren workspace shows you just how much sewing has been going on, zero!

Nothing much has changed on my design wall. I still don't like the orange pumpkin.....

These are a few of the Polaroid blocks I received in a swap. I have a pattern for a polaroid camera that I need to get to soon.

I still haven't put things away from my getaway that was a month ago!

I did whip up these pincushions today just to sew a teeny bit.

This is the back of a baby quilt I finished today.

The baby shower is next weekend and it's hot off the sewing machine and into the washer. I will take a picture after it is gifted.
I know I have not been around but being sick took it's toll and I had to play catch up. Hopefully I will have more to show you in the next few days now that I am feeling better.
Have a great weekend!
