Visit With Judie
I know I have not been around much, it is autumn and such a busy time, there has been no sewing going on. This past week I visited my friend Judie who lives in Annapolis, Maryland. This is a picture of a wonderful pottery shop called Annapolis Pottery. It is one of those places that makes it hard time to pick out one or two things. Everything is beautiful!
How cute are these? The colors were great too.
I bought these 2 little guys and I love their scary faces.
Next we went to lunch at the Severn Inn which as you can see is right on the water. We lunched on fish tacos and crab cakes while admiring the view of the Naval Academy. It was a beautiful, warm, breezy day to eat on the deck.
Next we found our way to a quilt store, Cotton Seed Glory that was filled with lots and lots of fabrics.
as you
can see!
It is a beautiful and very cozy port city. The old brick buildings and all the history make this a must see, along with many many cool shops.
Thanks again Judie for another wonderful time!

Diary Block Tuesday
I warned you there were a lot of birthdays in September! This past weekend was my oldest son, Johnson's birthday. Golf is a favorite of his so this is his block!
As a teenager he would wake up at 5:00 am and ride his bike 5 miles to caddy all day long, every weekend. I can't ever remember him getting up for anything that early!
I was spoiled rotten when he was born. The very first night home he slept through the night, he was such an easy happy baby!
He was always an Eagle fan and is now a die hard Phillies fan as well. Can anyone remember who #7 was????
The beach is a place that holds many good memories of some really fun times together. They all got along well.
I love this picture, it was when I was still in control of what they wore! Even though brothers will fight from time to time, they are always there for each other.
He is a very strong, yet quiet person and loyal to a fault. The other day his daughter Fallon ran up to him and gave him a giant hug and wouldn't let go, that kind of says it all.

Birthday Present
There are a lot of family and friend birthdays in September. I made this for my friend, Cynthia who lives far away and I don't see very often.
I really enjoyed making it and learned a thing or two.....I free cut the shapes and hand appliqued it with no line to follow. Very freeing and it came out pretty good. I read some where that you should trust your eye because it does not lie. So that is what I did, just kept looking at it and seeing if it looked pretty even.
The size of the piece is about 3 x 3 so I bought a frame that was 5 x 5. I took some mat board for the back, poked some holes in with a needle and sewed it to the mat board. All the fabrics are cotton and the background is a linen which gave it a cool, textured look.
Happy Birthday Cynthia!

Diary Quilt Tuesday
My oldest granddaughter, Fallon turned 9 this weekend. It seems like yesterday that I was giving her a bottle. They do grow up so fast. Her last year in single digits!
This is block #42 and I am growing weary doing this every week. Sometimes I wake up on Tuesday with no block made and no idea what I am going to do! It's one thing to do a block every week that is a set pattern, it's another thing to make one up!
This was my big purchase at the quilt show. It is going to change my machine quilting life.....it better for $34.00! They had one that was 2 inches bigger all around and it was $68.00!!
It is a piece of slippery plasticy stuff that I am sure you could make on your own if you could find the slippery stuff. I used it on the Diary Block but it is so small I am not sure it was a real test. I will let you know.

Diary Quilt Tuesday #41
This block is how I have felt the past week, scattered, going in a million directions and a little askew!
I think I need to "cut" some things out of my schedule, hence the scissors in the center.
To top it off I made the block the wrong size.....I have only made 40......oh well as Tim Gunn says "make it work"! It adds to the whole theme of the block.
The quilting is a swirly design to keep with the confusion of things.
I can't believe it has been 11 years since the terror attacks. Like many people we all remember where we were that day. I was in charge of a workshop with my friend Suzanne. We had Becky Goldsmith of Piece O' Cake teaching an applique class, in a fire hall, how bizarre is that?
After some discussion it was decided we would go ahead with the class. Everyone was there and ready to go. Never, ever did we think the day would unfold as it did. May God rest their souls.
When I woke up today it was very eerily similar to that day, it was a Tuesday too. Bright blue skies, cool temperatures with no humidity. Thankfully it was a normal boring day......

Monday Morning Colors
At long last a quilt I have been working on for the past 2 years is finished! This is one of my favorite blocks.
For some reason I am having a hard time taking a picture of it. Here is a close up. A black polka dot binding was used to hold in all the craziness!
The baskets are hand appliqued and it is machine quilted. It is all made from scraps which made it fun and interesting to make. The colors definitely reflect my pallette.

Giveaway!
I really need to get it together! Last Sunday I reached 2 years of blogging. I have to say it is one of the best decisions I ever made. To "know" so many people around the world is very exciting and always inspiring.
In a lot of ways I think it kept me sane during a difficult time in my life.
I am going to pick 2 winners, tell me which one you want! Leave me a comment, become a follower if you aren't already. I will pick the winner next Saturday. Good luck!

Diary Block Tuesday
Every Memorial Day and Labor Day we take a motorcycle ride with friends to a town called Chesapeake City in Maryland. It is not far and we mostly take back roads. This weekend there was a threat of rain but we headed out any way. We dodged the raindrops all the way there and no sooner sat down to lunch when the skies opened up. Lucky for us it stopped by the time we were done eating and missed every shower on the way home too!
I do not ride but am happy to sit behind my husband and check out other people's gardens!
I have been busy on some other projects and hope to show them this week...
