Scrap Quilt Secrets Blog Hop and Book Giveaway
Today is my day on the blog hop to introduce you to my blogging friend, Diane Knott of Butterfly Threads Quilting. Her new book Scrap Quilt Secrets is an in depth book about scrap quilts and how to make them. The cover quilt immediately got my attention when I saw her book! Look at all those lovely scrappy half square triangles.
Diane breaks down into easy steps the way to make a stunning design using all those precious scraps you are saving for just the right quilt.
I liked the quilt in the book called "Fusion" and made this pillow using her secrets and quick techniques. It went together quickly and the instructions were clear and easy to follow.
One of the things Diane talks about in the book is contrast, something I always struggle with in quilting.
I enjoyed mixing it up and using lots of cherry reds in the pillow to make it scrappy. You could even fussy cut the center in this block, the ideas are endless!
To celebrate the release of her new book, Diane is giving you a chance to win a copy right here on my blog. To enter please leave me a comment and if you want answer the question, "how many scrap quilts have you made?" Be sure your email address is included or you will not be eligible to win. International winner will receive an E-book. I will be picking the winner on Monday April 4th.
Congratulations Diane on a lovely book!

ReplyDeleteToo many scrap quilts to count and more everyday. My fav!
ReplyDeleteAll the quilts I have made have been from scraps.....I would say I have made approximately 14 quilts, and I am putting bindings on two more. Oh, and two quilted scrappy Christmas stockings. Jspwarren at aol dot com
ReplyDeleteScrap quilts are my absolute favorite kind of quilt to make! I couldn't keep count on how many I've made so far! I love using tiny pieces to create a work of art!
ReplyDeleteWell I am not too sure how many I have made from scraps. At least more than five...
ReplyDeleteLovely book, thanks for the chance to win.
As a relative newbie to quilting, I would say 2 would qualify as scrap quilts.
ReplyDeleteSo far I've made just three scrap quilts, all from Bonnie Hunter patterns. I'm looking to branch out now, and the quilts in this book are beautiful!!

I think I have made at least 10 scrap quilts. I have been converted and always admire what can be created with the "leftovers" from another quilt. I love the pillow you made. Love the red and white. Thanks for the giveaway! spoofs@juno.com
ReplyDeleteI LOVE scrap quilts! I made one of Diane's from her blog- it looked like sunflowers. I have made many and working on more. I can count 9 off the top of my head. Scraps are like bunnies....they multiply really fast!
ReplyDeleteI think I have made at least five scrap quilts. I love using those scraps.
ReplyDeleteScrap quilts are my favorite. I have made at least 10 that have been given as gifts. When quilting, scraps tend to multiply.

I love the combination of piecing and applique. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI need to learn about using contrasting fabrics too! I've made many scrappy projects, like sewing machine covers, potholders, mug rugs, but only one quilt. It's a baby quilt using scraps of Joel Dewberry fabrics left over from any project. It turned out very cool!
ReplyDeleteI have made quite a few scrap quilts. Many of them are charity quilts. It is a fun challenge for use up the stash.
ReplyDeletejebleup@gmail.com
I really am not sure how many scrap quilts I've made as I've been making scrap quilts for years. Taking a wild guess, I'd 15 or so. I LOVE scrap quilts :)
ReplyDeleteI've never kept count of how many scrap quilts I've made...12? 15? I love how scrap quilts honor the early quilters who truly sewed from their scrap baskets.♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteI have made a total of ONE scrap quilt. I really enjoyed the controlled chaos of the quilt. It was made as a donation to charity. With my OCD I didn't really think going in that I would like the quilt, but when it was finished I had a really hard time letting it go!!
ReplyDeleteScrap quilts are my favorite, so in 21 years of quilting I have made TOO Many to count! I really want to win this book, so thanks for the opportunity.

ReplyDeleteI've made a handful of scrap baby quilts. I can't seem to do other kinds of quilts lately. One of my favorites was a quilt using scraps and a weird color'd solid fabric. I love how it came out!!!

ReplyDeleteI do not know how many scrap quilts I have made but it is a LOT! For the last 5 years or so most of my quilts have been scrappy.
ReplyDeleteI have made a lot of scrap quilts! But judging from the scraps I still have in boxes and bags, I apparently need to make a lot more! This looks like a great book, thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI too make mainly scrap quilts, and this new book looks like it has heaps of ideas for using up more of those precious scraps!
ReplyDeleteI've lost count. I belong to a group at church that makes scrappy quilts for our local rescue mission. I piece 3 or 4 a year with for this group.
ReplyDeleteI have lost count as I mostly make scrap quilts, but I have completed 3 scrap tops just this year. I would enjoy this book very much. Thanks.
ReplyDeletejoyecox@yahoo.com
Still quite new to quilting and have complete 6-7 scrappy crib size quilts. I love the interest scraps create-always something new to look at. This boook would help improve my skills immensely. Tanks so much for the book offer.
ReplyDeleteI think scraps are lots more fun than yardage!
ReplyDeleteYou like to ask the tough questions to make us earn the book, don't you? By my estimation, I have startd over a hundred quilts. How many of those are finished narrows this down a bit - okay maybe a lot. And of those, we are going to have to start thinking about the definition of scrap, right? There are some that use a bunch of fabrics and then there are some that just use a few but they don't match. Then there are some that match, but use leftovers from another project. So I'm going to make up a number, and you won't know the difference unless you come over and do an audit. Umm, 10. No, wait it can't be a whole number. 17. Yeah, and if you can't find them all in my house, those were the ones I gave away.
ReplyDeleteI have only made a few mug rugs with scraps but want to make some bigger quilts.
ReplyDeleteI have made 4 scrap quilts. I have always had a hard time making scrap quilts and was told to throw everything in a bag and just grab and use it. That has helped me some. Thanks for a chance to win a copy of this wonderful book.
ReplyDeleteI have made 11 -- that's counting big, baby and wall quilts, but not miniature, doll or table runners. Interestingly, I have only made 3 non-scrap quilts! You can tell what my preference is. :) sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteI've made a bunch of scrap quilts. But I have enough scraps to make about 873 more!
ReplyDeleteTtmarler@yahoo.com
Around 8 or 9 I have donated several. I love scrappy quilts and projects. Thanks for the chance. Kristikay at spratt dot net

ReplyDeleteTjbetan@icloud.com
I have made over 20 scrap quilts of all sizes, but I still have boxes and boxes of scraps! LOL! pattynubs at gmail dot com

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - the most comments I've ever seen on your blog!! Congrats! Sadly, I have made no scrap quilts yet but I sure have the scraps to make one! Your pillow is so beautiful, of course!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks like so much fun. I love the fabrics and colors that you chose for your pillow. You did a beautiful job. I don't know how many scrap quilts I've made, a few. Wish I would have kept a list of my quilts from the very beginning. Stephanie Braskey
ReplyDeleteDo you see me waving my hand really high? 🙋🏻🙋🏻🙋🏻 that's me, me,pick me! I like your pillow & you can guess one of the reasons why. Yep...great use of red.
ReplyDeleteI have never made a scrap quilt but have plenty of scraps to start. I love the book's cover...very inspiring. Love your pillow too. Judie
ReplyDeleteI don't know how many I've made....I can't stop making them....
ReplyDeleteAt the very beginning of my quilting career (the mid-1990's) I used all-the-same fabric in blocks. I soon found out that that was very boring. Since then all my quilts are scrappy, multi-fabric quilts.
ReplyDeleteI am a new quilter, I haven't made any yet.
ReplyDeleteMost of my quilts are scrappy. I find them more interesting and fun to make!
ReplyDeleteThrough my years of quilting, it's become obvious to me that my favorite quilts are the scrappy ones. My estimate is 30-35 scrappy quilts over the years. Most of my scrappy ones lately have been smaller, lap-sized quilts for my MIL's nursing home. My 9 or 10 large scrappy quilts were definitely favorites. Go Scraps! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
ReplyDeleteCute pillow. Love the colors, cherry red is my favorite. Many of my quilts are scrap quilts.
ReplyDeleteI think almost all the quilts I have made are scrap quilts! The more the merrier.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? You think I have kept track of how many scrap quilts I've made? If you count the minis I would take a stab and guess over 100. LOVE them! So fun to see this pattern sewn up in your choice of fabrics.....
ReplyDeletecouldn't begin to fathom a guess...been working with scraps as long as I have been quilting, which is now 38 years....homage to our ancestors and that yankee mantra....use it up, wear it out, make do or do without....
ReplyDeleteI can remember three big ones I have made but I am sure there are more out there . Looks like such a fun book.
ReplyDeleteI'm not ducking the question, but I really can't guess how many--even when I make a "planned" quilt, scraps sneak in there. My very favorite quilt is my scrappiest, made with bits of fabric from other "favorite" quilts, so that every piece is a sweet memory. I love that quilt so much, and now whenever I make a quilt, I tuck away a very distinctive scrap or two for the next "favorite" scrap quilt.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE working with scraps to create quilts so can not count how many I have made. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI have made 3 and have 1 in the works. I really enjoy the look of scrap quilts and would love to elarn her techniques for making them look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI have made about 5 of them so far. I have a couple that are in process between other quilts.
ReplyDeleteI have made one quilt from scraps so far but I hope to use more of my every growing tub of scraps.
ReplyDeleteI have made about 7 or 8 scrap quilts...I just love making them. Thanks for sharing the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI've only made about a dozen quilts but they are all scrappy quilts. Thanks for participating in the blog hop.
ReplyDelete--Nancy. (ndmessier @ aol.com, joyforgrace.blogspot.com)
I would have to say that I have made only 2 scrap quilts. I love how there were no 'rules' and I could use whatever fabric I had on hand! Pure joy! Thank you for the giveaway! I would love to win! Margo [onlydiamonds at hotmail dot com]
ReplyDeleteI am guessing that I have made at least a dozen scrappy quilts. They are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a hard question. If I include I spy quilts, it's about a dozen, and counting!
ReplyDeleteI make quilts for charity and I don't count them. Last year a friend who bought a long arm offered to quilt the tops I had so she could practice, there were 25 scrap quilts. My friends give me their scraps, I haven't cut into my stash fabrics for quite awhile. I've probably have made over four dozen scrap quilts and am working on three at this time. This book has so many great ideas, I'm looking forward to seeing it.
ReplyDeleteIt would be hard to put a number on how many scrap quilts I have made...so I would say almost a 100.
ReplyDeleteI've only made one srap quilt, but would love to win the book and learn more from Diane!
ReplyDeleteOnly made one so far!
ReplyDeleteI use a few regularly planned quilt fabrics, but from the very beginning 40 years ago, it has been scrappies all the way!
ReplyDeleteglen
I've made a few scrap quilts. I'd like to do more.
ReplyDeleteI've made 4 scrappy quilts, but need to make more to use up my civil war prints and other fabrics in my stash. This book would be perfect! Thanks for the give-away!
ReplyDeleteAm relatively newly serious to quilting...have sewn "forever" it seems. Pretty much all quilts I have made have been scrappy...(maybe 5 so far??? Hmmm..) Scraps are my favorite kind tho! Thank you for chance to win this Awesome book!! :D
ReplyDeleteI can't begin to count how many scrap quilts I have made. I'm over 60 and my Grandmother was part of the original scrap quilt generation. She taught me to quilt when I was a wee little thing. I do donate at least a dozen or more each year. Last year I donated 24. Life is good. Jmikebalou(at) aol dot com
ReplyDeleteI can't even begin to guess how many scrap quilts I've made! A lot of them, maybe even most of my quilts! But I'm always willing to learn a new technique or two, so I'd love to get this book. It looks like a good resource!
ReplyDeleteIf my WIPs are included, the scrap quilt count would be in the dozens; finished ones, not so many (some are still waiting for just the right scraps). Thanks so much for posting the Sounds of Silence video; I love it. Because of that post, and the one before it with the Meridian block, I'm subscribing to your blog--you're interesting!
ReplyDeletetoo many to count! most of my quilts are "scrap" quilts, if that means using as many different fabrics of a single color as I have in my stash when I need color X.
ReplyDeleteI've made 1 scrap quilt, really love the look of scrappy quilts. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMost of my quilts are not scrappy but I need to start making some to use up stash fabric. Book looks great for that inspiration. tacdah at gmaildotcom.
ReplyDeleteI have not made any scrap quilts as quite new to quilting and have stuck to patterns and pre cut fabric packs x
ReplyDeleteIain.ross30 at gmail dot com
I love using scraps in my quilt or in bee exchange blocks, but I've only made one quilt entirely from scraps. I've got one more in progress, and I don't intend to stop there!
ReplyDeleteTill now I've made 5 scrap tops but not all are finished quilts at the moment.

I have no idea how many scrap quilts I've made - I lost track years ago! Since 1975, I've only made 2 quilts that *weren't* scrap quilts. Scrappy is what I do!
ReplyDeleteI have a whole tub of my grandmother's scraps, plus some of my own, so, though I've only made a few so far, I've many scrap quilts to go. Inspiration (and time) are what I need.
ReplyDeleteLove scrap quilts - I have made about ten of them! mumbird3atgmaildotcom
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great quilt! I would love to win it!
ReplyDeleteI've made 2 scrap quilts in my 10 years of quilting, but I have caught the bug. I am in the middle of making 5 scrap quilts currently all started in the last 6 months. amanda.echler(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI have made probably 8 - 10 scrap quilts and seems like I have not made a dent in the pile. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI just started sewing this past summer/fall. So I have not made a scrap quilt yet, but I am starting to get a sizable amount of scraps to use. This book looks fun.

Making scrappy quilts is my favorite thing to make. I have made sew many that I can't even begin to put a number on how many I have made. Thanks for the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how many I've made over the course of 40 years but I do know it's time to make three or four more from the scraps I have on hand right now. The book looks like it would have just the inspiration I need to get started. edrin1932 at gmail dot come

ReplyDeleteI love scrap quilts, but am a beginner. I started my first quilt and didn't like the results. I am in the process of cutting it down to reshape. Still a little wonky, but am pressing forward. Would love to read this book to learn how to avoid mistakes in the future.
ReplyDeleteI have made 5 scrap quilts and have a few more in progress. Your pillow is wonderful. Thanks for the opportunity to win this awesome book.

ReplyDeleteIn the ten years I've been quilting, I have made 30 quilts and one of them was a non-scrappy quilt. I started with leftover fabrics from the boys jammies. I love the look of a scrappy quilt. Thanks for the chance to win. ;^) Chantal

ReplyDeleteScrap quilts are my favorites. I've made at least 15 of them.
ReplyDeleteI love scrap quilts! I'm not sure exactly how many I've made...lets just say upwards of 10.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the opportunity to win this book. I love scrap quilts. It's very hard for me to make a quilt using just 4 or 5 fabrics. I've got to use LOTS. All shades of cream, yellow, white and tan are my backgrounds and then I grab COLOR from the stacks. Lots and lots of variety. Then the leftovers get cut up in usable sizes for the bins. I've been quilting like this for about 15 years and will never go back. Love my scraps

I've probably made five or six scrap quilts. I make at least one a year to donate to charity! Time to make another. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI like working with scraps. Only my first two quilts tops I think were all planned with fabric purchases. The rest I grab different fabrics to represent a color. I need help with making the selections so things go together better.
ReplyDeleteOh I have also made a few from Quilts for Kids kits, they aren't here anymore so I don't really count them. Thank you for putting my name in the hat for the drawing!
I'm not sure how many scrap quilts I've made but more than 5 and I have enough scraps to make many more!
ReplyDeleteI have made quite a few scrap quilts, and have "sprouts" for many more!
ReplyDeleteI've completed two Scrap quilt and have a on going pineapple Scrap quilt in progress. I would love to do more but I'm always afraid that it won't look good when finished. I need to learn how to work with scraps.

I haven't made any - yet, but I certainly have enough scraps to make one (or 1/2 dozen!) carmen99 at asimplehomestead.com
ReplyDeleteScrappy is my favorite, but how many? I don't know, since I've given away quilts and end up forgetting that I made them till I see a picture!! I guess I'd better document my quilts better!! :-) Thanks for hosting for us all! Hugs, H
