I always considered myself lucky to have grown up with some of the best music ever made. Even my children agree that my teenage years were much better than their's in terms of music. Simon and Garfunkel were definitely at the top of my list. I even played the guitar at mass to the song The Sounds of Silence. It holds a special place in my heart.
Recently I came across this video and I can't stop watching it. His voice is amazing (even though it is a heavy metal band) and I dare say I might like it better than the original. Let's face it a good voice is is good voice, even in a heavy metal band!

I think I agree, Kelly ~ about everything! Our generation did have wonderful music and S&G are part of the soundtrack of my youth that I still listen to regularly. But this is a wonderful rendition of their hit! So powerful. Thanks for sharing!

Another powerful one for me Leonard Chohen's Hallelujah, it is over thirty years old and I found a link of 60 performers on a Newsweek site that I'll have to listen to some. Love k.d.langs version.

ReplyDeleteI never even heard of this guy before, until a coworker posted this song. It is absolutely amazing!! (I am not a heavy metal fan!!) But this song- hi voice! a perfect blend! I love it more than the original! It gives me goosebumps!

ReplyDeleteI have heard this version several times over the past few weeks. I like it. It's a great reinvention. It makes the words so much more powerful. We did grow to maturity with great music, didn't we?

ReplyDeleteincredible - another thing we have in common. My 8th grade choir sang this song in our graduation concert. I have almost every single Simon and Garfunkel and Paul Simon CD. I went through a real obsessed period.
ReplyDeleteI too love Simon and Garfunkel. They were a huge part of my teen years. (I think I'm a little older than you) We had great music growing up! But this version is amazing! I really like it, although I'm not wild about the actual video. I'm not sure what the message of the video was?

I made a few scrappy quilts but in most cases I also used fabrics from my stash as well ... Definitively curious about the book!
