Yes Another Post!
I finished up my mini Halloween quilt last night. Full disclosure, the binding is glued down and not yet stitched, maybe tonight.
I got some email questions about how the hexies are sewed down. I first glue down the hexies with just a smidge of glue, next I machine quilt them going from top to bottom, rotating each turn from point to point.
I don't always hit each point even though I try.
As you can see in this picture the edges that are not sewn down are open.
I love this fabric on the back and you can see the quilting design which is very cool! Even with all my misses you don't really see them.
I have been in a major clean up and out mode the past week. I came across a few leftover toys from my children. This Raggedy Andy that was my daugher Cait's was made by a family friend, Mrs. Hargraves who is no longer with us. So I gave him a good wash and now need to do some minor repairs. She wants to give him to her new son Finn. It's hard to believe this doll is 33 years old!

what a sweet raggety Ann! I have mine from childhood, and one I got in my 20s and hannas - I have to find them and give them some love.
ReplyDeletethanks for the info on the hexie
As a child I always loved Raggedy Ann. I made a Raggedy Andy doll and then a Halloween costume for my now 37 year old son. Brings back many memories. It makes me want to go up in the attic to look for him.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt !!! I have the impression that the hexie with the skeleton is dancing like John Travolta in "Saturday night Fever" LOLOL !!!
ReplyDeleteGreat work Kelly !!
Have a nice day !
Your quilt looks great with the binding on.
ReplyDeleteI think it is lovely that your daughter still treasures her doll.
Your mini looks great! You have some fantastic fabrics there....
ReplyDeletelove the Halloween mini - very cute!
ReplyDeleteLove your little Halloween quilt. May I ask what size hexies did you use? This is a great idea, using theme fabric.
ReplyDeleteI ave seen hexies and would love to make them, but could not see myself sewing them together by hand.... Thank you for this technique.... I can't wait to get home from holidays to take some cute fabrics and get started.....love it! Hummm, maybe I'll find a fabric shop nearby and ....
ReplyDeleteSuper cute Kelly! Love the fussy cut Halloween hexies. I have a bit stack of them myself -- seeing this makes me want to start putting them together!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea for a fun Halloween (my favorite holiday) quilt!
ReplyDeleteRaggedy is a sweet hand-me-down. Wish I still had mine that a friend of my mom's made for me - sad face.
I remember that! I always thought the sewn on heart was weird.
ReplyDeleteWow - you are fast! Love the Halloween hexies. I'm still making mine and thinking of ways to use them. Thanks again for the tutorial. So sweet that Cait's Raggedy Andy will be passed on to Finn. Andy is looking great for this age!
DeleteI love the spotty binding!! Your Raggedy Anne is a sweetie with her little heart, she was a favourite of mine when I was little.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun way to sew the hexagons in place!

I love the Halloween hexies. Much to look at. I had an Andy and Ann that looked just like yours. Long gone.
ReplyDeleteUtterly delightful!! And the back is perfect!!! I need to try this while I'm mending and unable to sit at my machine!
ReplyDeleteI saw that little hex quilt happening on Instagram - very fun. I too have been doing a big purge. I calling it #thegreatsummerpurge and I have found some lovely treasures.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!! Cutest freaking quilt EVER!
ReplyDeleteWow, love all your Halloween fabric. All the ghouls fit perfectly in the hexies....very nice!
ReplyDeleteWhat is your hexie technique? I get the quilting part but do you have a special technique for the crisp folded under edges?
