Blue Hexies

This is my last mini raffle quilt. I love this and it will be hard to part with next spring. I guess I will have to buy some tickets.
I found this blog called Modern Handcraft . I loved how the hexies had a space in between them. It made it look just a little bit more modern and a little bit less grandmother's flower garden.

I didn't trust myself to follow her directions. I drew a grid on my background fabric. The next time I may still do a grid but differently as you will see soon.

After I made my hexagons, I pressed them with a hit of starch and let them dry.

Take out as much thread as needed to get the paper out. Next you want to use just a smidge of glue making sure it does not go to the edge. I used a tacky fast drying glue, just make sure it is something you can sew through.

Now you can see how I used the grid. See how the bottom ones are sort of like a guess as to if they are in the right position or not? The ones on top have a point on the bottom and top line. This would involve math or heaven forbid algebra?

After they are glued down, I used my ruler and a Frixion pen to draw lines down the middle of each one. I did not trust my eye to get them straight. Sandwich a batting and backing together and you are on your way.

First I did all the vertical ones (alternating each line....top to bottom, bottom to top). Next I drew line going from left to right and then right to left, again alternating each way to keep it from getting wonky.

I fussy cut a few, I love that fish in a bag! I even like how some of the light ones fade in and out

The design on the back is cool too. I spend a lot of time picking out a back to go with the front of the quilt. It feels like putting a period at the end of a sentence.

Same thing with the binding. I wanted a light binding with a touch of color, this fits the bill.
I am pretty sure there will be more of these in the future, it was so much fun to make!
