Blizzard 2016

This was about 1:00 in the afternoon on Saturday. Then it felt like the heavens opened up and it was truly a blizzard!

This was the next morning. Think about sitting in that chair and it is to the top! The hump to the right is our grill. It is pretty though...notice it is all the up to the bottoms of the swings.
Ok I have a rant......a friend just sent me an email saying her neighbor is going to cancel their mowing contract because the guy hasn't gotten there yet to plow their driveway. This is incredibly hard work even with a snow plow on a truck. Trucks are breaking down, Saturday you couldn't even see and they are working 18 hour days. Trust me they want to be done with it as much as you want it to be done! Our crew is out again today and will be out again tomorrow. The snow is extremely heavy and takes about 3x as long to do as a normal snow, not to mention they are working in the cold and at the end of the day in the dark. They will get to you as soon as they can. Not everyone can be first on the list! Please be patient this is a historic snowfall! Ok now that I got that out......
Well almost, I can't even get out of my garage because my husband has not had time to plow it out. You know the cobbler's children have no shoes!

My circles are really coming along. I think this might be a big quilt. The block size is 5" unfinished. I like how they are not perfect circles.

This is the one I made on the day of the blizzard. I have been putting the date on the seam allowances.

I so want to show you this but it is for a challenge so it will have to wait.

  1. Feel free to rant...that is totally insane to expect immediate plowing service in the middle of a "state of emergency". Some people are self centered and selfish...those who are out plowing in the middle of a blizzard are hard working, kind-hearted souls. Now, off my soapbox! LOL Love those wonky circles and your documentation in the seam allowance is a great idea.

  3. This is why I live in Houston. Yes, August is terribly hot, but we have A/C (and just like the plowing service, the A/C repair services do the best they can! ;) ). By the way, yesterday was sunny with a light breeze and a high in the low 70s. Y'all are all welcome to come visit if you can dig out of the snow! PS - Love your wonky circles!

  4. Rant away- I agree with you. Plow drivers- and any emergency workers - are to be commended for their HARD work! People can be so entitled & selfish, it makes me very angry.

    Those wonky circles are great!

  5. I do hope you are all safe and warm. I know the snow is beautiful but also a huge inconvenience. I'm sorry that you've been dealing with cranky people. Just be thankful you don't have to live with them! See, there's always a bright side. LOL
Your wonky circles are awesome. Just keep stitchin!

  6. There's always a few people who are mad at everything. Your circles are so free wheeling. Are you using a template or just free form cutting? You've chosen so whimsical fabrics and it's neat that you're documenting your circles.

  7. I love seeing everyone's circles, they're all so different! I think we should just be thankful that we didn't loose power with all of this heavy snow, and also enjoy being stuck inside a bit (or outside playing with the kids, as in my case!) since we're cozy and warm and have internet and power for sewing machines. :) Two of our neighbors are also snowplowers and they've been so exhausted the past three days. Thank you to all who are clearing up for us while we are comfortable inside! sarah@forrussia.org

  8. I was hoping you would post photos of the snow. It gives me a good understanding of how much there is. What an amazing sight!
You are allowed to rant. Unfortunately many people want everything instantly and will not take a moment to consider others. I am sure there are many who are extremely grateful.
Your circles are looking good and I like the way you are recording each day.

  12. Oh my, so much snow but it is beautiful! Your circles are just coming out lovely - it'll be a story quilt when you get finished - reminding me of your diary quilt you did a few years back!

  13. I've been out shoveling for hours each day since Saturday (we live in Baltimore, so this is our largest single snow fall ever) ...and, all the while, I've been thinking of all those folks out working in the storm and after the storm, away from their families. When Baltimore City went to Phase 3 emergency, and all medical personnel had to stay on the job because no one could be on the streets except emergency folks and snow clearing folks, I couldn't help but think of my daughter, a pediatric resident (already working crazy hours in SF). So your rant is totally justified. People need to stop expecting immediate gratification and realize we're all in this together! And, by the way, I also love seeing your circles! Now, I'm off to do a tiny bit of sewing...only a tiny bit because my arms are might tired...

I don't really "get" the circle challenge, but yours is my favorite.

  15. Good grief! What is wrong with people? And really, where are you going with over 2 feet of snow out there? We all had plenty of warning to prepare to be home for a few days. Patience is a virtue!
