Looking For Suggestions
My husband has been sick for the past 4 days. The stay in bed all day kind of sick. He nevers does that so you know it was bad. In between playing nursemaid and cafeteria lady, I finished up another mini hexie quilt. This time I used some of my Kaffe Fassett fabrics that I have way too much of in a giant bin. I used a 1" hexie instead of the 1 1/2" that I used in some other quilts.
I love the aqua binding that is subtle along with the background fabric.
I am working on trying to figure out a border for my Farmer's Wife quilt. I have had this idea stashed away for some time but I think it is too big.
I also sewed up some half square triangles and I am leaning towards this one as I think it anchors it more than the other one, but it is very predictable.
Tell me which one you like and I will take it under consideration!
In the meantime I can't stop making these adorable Mini Raspberry Kisses. They finish at 2"!!!!!
You can find the tutorial at Michael Ann Made. Just be warned you won't be able to stop once you start!

I like the smaller one..very pretty quilt...hugs, Julierose
saludos
Your comment about having so much Kaffe fabric and then you cut 1" hexies just made me smile. That didn't make much of a dent! Lol. But it made a super cute quilt. Hope you don't catch the bug. I think I like the open space that orange peels create. Could you adjust the size a bit? They make a nice contrast with all the straight lines of the blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour kaffe hexie mini is such a wonderful burst of colour! I like the orange peels. You could always use them on 2 sides of the quilt and use the HST on the other 2 sides for something different?
ReplyDeleteYour little hexy quilt is very vibrant and fun looking! Great binding choice. I agree with your that the hst's anchor the quilt more, but perhaps if you add just a touch more applique at the base of the orange peels that would have the same effect? lol Nothing like adding more ideas to the confuse the issue.:)
ReplyDeleteHello Kelly !
ReplyDeleteThe triangles are the confortable solution because we see this border many times. No risk to take !
The first border is original, unusual and so daring (audacious) for your quilt but I vote for it ! It changes a lot !!
Love your tiny blocks !! :)
I love the hex quilt, it is such a happy mini. x
ReplyDeleteHexi piece is great--love the added text background! As for the border-- I like the uncommon look of the peels however would it be overpowering if the peels were laid in a section of 4 (to create the flower shape) to create the border. I am not sure if the scale would be way off but it sure would make a nice frame. And thanks for the link my friend--another addiction!
ReplyDeleteRaspberry kisses...yum!
ReplyDeleteMaybe what is bothering you is the scale. With all the intricate piecing in the blocks you may need a smaller scale border. Just IMHO
ReplyDeleteI like the orange peels -- combined with a bright binding, it will be stunning.
ReplyDeleteI like the orange peel the best but instead of doing all 4 sides why not off set it on 2 cross corners with white in-between... hum I may not have put that very clear. visualize with me 6 to 8 orange peals going across the top left hand side and down the side then white to the end of the top and left side and then do the same for the bottom right corner.
ReplyDeleteI like the Orange peels for a border. I like the curves contrasting with the angular piecing in the blocks. Such a wonderful and colourful quilt!
ReplyDeletePoor Bob, the flu has hit very early this year, I hope you don't get it! The mini-hexi quilt is too cute! And so are the raspberry kissed, what a cute name!
ReplyDeleteI like the half-squares for the border and the reason is, the orange peels distract my eyes to them rather than the quilt squares and you've put too much time in them to distract from them. Hope that helps! Your colors are gorgeous!
I like the orange peels. But I tend to change my mind a lot so I might have a different answer tomorrow. LOL Hope your hubby feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteHow about appliqué small circles in bright colors? It's beautiful and cheery.
ReplyDeleteI like the orange peel too! I am just wondering whether they are scaled a bit too large.... I feel they are a bit overpowering with the little sampler blocks! I am certain you will make something beautiful from all the suggestions you have to consider...
ReplyDeleteI like the melons Kelly. Those little kisses are so sweet.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the orange peel border... could you size them down?
ReplyDeleteI agree that the orange peel looks too big...but I think the half-squares look a bit large, too. Have you considered using rasberry kisses on your beautiful quilt?
ReplyDeleteI'm jumping in here a bit late but my reaction was I like the orange peel but perhaps might scale them down a bit? Seems lots have already stated that. I laughed what I saw the hexies...spots before my eyes. I know I should read that newspaper but I'd rather be quilting! Color my world! Who wants black & white? I sure hope Bob feels better..lie is certainly not a guy who will stay in bed without a good reason. And I sure hope he doesn't share!
ReplyDeleteThe hexie quilt is delightful.
ReplyDeleteIt has been interesting to read the thoughts on the quilt border. Look forward to your decision.
I hope by now that your hubs is back to 100 percent health! Don't you love making those modern hexies? The glue and straight line stitching makes for such an effective project. And your little Kisses are sweet... but don't get me started! :-) The want-to-do list is long enough already!
