Beyond The Cherry Tree---check

I am so happy. This is the third UFO I checked off the list this week. It feels like a weight has been lifted.

While I do love these blocks, I don't want to make anymore. Once I realized this I had to decide what to do with them.

They are all hand appliqued so there is no way that I was storing them in a drawer.

The odd number of blocks would not make a quilt unless I made some more.......ugh, no.

It does feel like a Christmas quilt, with all the red and green.

So I will take it out every year and enjoy it for the month of December. Hopefully all my applique will hold up because at some point it will be going in the washer!

I am already cringing at the thought of someone putting a glass of wine on this.......maybe it will not go on the kitchen table.....

  5. I would definitely roll it up at meals, it's too beautiful for accidents! Your needle-turn applique inspired me to take a class in it in Houston.

  6. I love those blocks and it's wonderful to see them used so beautifully. The table runner looks perfect on your table but I would cringe too if something was spilt on it. I agree with the othrs, just roll it up before dinner.

  8. It's absolutely gorgeous Kelly! I would want it under glass, to protect all your beautiful stitching! You inspire me to do more applique! Are these blocks from a particular pattern?

  11. Those appliquéd blocks look beautiful together in your table runner. Congrats on getting another UFO finished. I don't think I'd let anyone put wine, spaghetti sauce, etc anywhere near that beauty.

  12. I always love your fabric choices!! Great idea with orphan applique blocks. BTW, college granddaughter requested "Kelly's Pumpkin Bars with chocolate chips" for this month's care package!!! She should get them today!

  13. What a perfect solution! Finishing a project you don't want to complete as planned and a gorgeous table runner! Your fabric choices are so happy as usual! Great decision!!

  14. Perfect solution for your lovely blocks! :)

I have 3 Benjamin Biggs large blocks that I combined and hand quilted that fits a table behind my couch. Table runners are good :)

  15. Lovely! Is there a horizontal space above the windows in your porch? Could you hang or there or somewhere? I would take it off table before meals...but that is also a shame to do.

  16. ohhhh. You can also use it for February . Those bright colors will be welcome them. Who says it has to go on the dining room table. I have a whole collection of these I use on the back of the dining room chairs or like a side valance on the drapes in the dining room.

  17. Kelly, Your blocks are gorgeous and the runner is a perfect choice. It will be a beautiful Christmas tradition. I also use 'good quilts" to decorate my dining room table; they are replaced with functional tablecloths when it's time for meals or socializing with wine.

  19. Great idea to make the blocks into a table runner!! Too bad you'll only have it out at Christmas... it's just fabulous!! I like the idea for Valentine's Day, too, though!!

  20. Your piece looks amazing! Too pretty to just come out for Christmas. Maybe put a sleeve on it and hang it on a wall?

  23. This is really lovely, I have this pattern and have been a bit scared to start, but I like the idea of just doing 5 blocks....it's not such a big commitment then ;)

  25. Good for you to tick off a UFO. I AM JEALOUS! I haven't stepped near my UFO bin for months.... and I have a quilt I promised myself I'd put together and quilt in 2015. Time is running out! Your table runner is lovely. I have placemats my guests don't want to sit their wine glasses on, but I insist they do because that's what they're meant for. I use SR32 stain remover, purchased inexpensively from Publix grocery store, and haven't had any problem getting wine out of them.

  26. Yummy Yummy - it's like the best piece of eye candy I've seen in a while. I love this as a runner and it looks fabulous on your long dark table!

  27. I think this is a great end result. A perfect solution to using these blocks. They are too special to leave as orphan blocks. Well done on another finish.
