DST
A little bit of sewing that makes me think of spring. I was trying this out for a baby quilt....not sure yet.
Ok now my rant about Daylight Savings Time....why did they change it to so early in the not-yet- spring? It was finally getting light in the morning and now we are back to darkness. It is too cold (and snowy) to be outside in the evening to enjoy it. Maybe I am just cranky because I lost that hour of sleep......not to mention it has thrown off my day completely!
This is the center of the wedding quilt I made for my son Colin and his wife Jenny. The applique was coming off and I procrastinated about how to sew it back down. Obviously the silk thread did not hold up and trying to applique the pieces on an already washed quilt was not appealing either.
The veins were machine quilted by the quilter and I decided to free motion around the edges of the leaves. Looks good and I know it will not come apart. Problem solved! Now they will get it back in a reasonable time and before the babies are born!

What a sweet Flowering Snowball block! Perfect fix on your sons wedding quilt too. It blends right in with the rest of the quilting stitches and looks very durable now. DST is the very least favorite time of year for me. My body does not adjust well to it at all.:)
ReplyDeleteA flowering snowball in those colours would make such a pretty quilt for a baby. DST drives me crazy too, it's amazing how changing 1 hour can really throw you out. I wish they should just make the time half way in between and leave it there. The leaves look great with their sewn edges, what a great solution.
ReplyDeleteLove your pattern. As to DST - ugh - why change at all - pick one time, keep it and forget all this insanity. Do you think we can get Congress onto it?
ReplyDeleteGreat fix on the quilt! I hate the time change anyway. Seems like a bunch of nonsense at this point in time. I never understood it. There is the same amount of daylight no matter how they mess with what time it is. :)
ReplyDeleteThat beautiful applique is fixed! It looks great. I think of you and this project everytime I pull the silk thread out of my bag to use. I know now to only use it for projects that will get little to no washing. The block at the top of your post is very pretty it would make a beautiful baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love the block you made on the top! I it's very pretty and graceful, and I like that you can really see the prints of the fabríc. Im glad you fixed the appliqué and I appreciate you sharing the problem so that now maybe I can avoid it :) thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of the two pregnant women. How amazing that they were roommates and wound up related. There must be a story to that! I love your block but I'd never try it; I hate curved piecing! Looks like you fixed the wedding quilt perfectly! LOVe it.
ReplyDeleteGreat result with the quilt repairs. Looks good.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy daylight saving but always take the first week to get used to it. My one frustration with it is that when it starts here it is always on the weekend before the children go back to school after term break in September and all of them are irritable and tired for the start of term.
We now have 6 months on DST and 6 months off. Our DST ends on the Easter weekend this time.
The flowering snowball is on my bucket list. I like your pink yummy colors. I so agree about DST. Here in Michigam it is very dark in the a.m. It takes me a week to recover. It must feel good to have your quilt repair completed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little block you made! Perfect curves, too. That is interesting about the silk thread not holding up but I like the way you 'fixed' the quilt. It won't come undone anymore and looks fine!
ReplyDeleteI like that first block a lot. Good solution on repair!
ReplyDeleteI'm having a little adjustment problems with the time change too!
ReplyDeleteGood fix!
I like that block for a baby quilt. What is the name of it? My 18 month old and I are having a hard time adjusting to DLS this year also.... :(
ReplyDeleteGreat resolution to a challenging fix! I'll take a sewing machine finish almost any time (except when it comes to binding). Agree with you about DST! It took me closer to five days to get back to feeling my usual self.
