Friday
This has been a long week with very little sewing going on here. I am enjoying these blocks that can be made in less than an hour (not counting deciding on fabric) and using up my old Christmas/winter fabrics.
Isn't it interesting that you can see what you want to see sometimes and not what is actually there? For example this block "feels" like a Christmas block but there is not any Christmas fabric in it....oops I just saw the holly fabric that I used for the windows. Oh well you get what I mean.
Again except for the background all of these are not Christmas specific either.
I am not sure what will happen with these blocks but I am enjoying the simple picking and choosing and sewing without a plan.
Do you have a recipe box? I have a very vintage one and I love that it is loved and well used. I will admit I use online recipes, have my own binder of recipes handed down and who can live without the Joy of Cooking? Today I was looking for the Swedish Oatmeal cookies that Marian at guild brought that were a big hit a couple of months back.
There just is something simple and basic about opening a box and plucking out a recipe card in the handwriting of someone you love.
You never know what you will find......yep simple, basic and in the handwriting of a loved one.
PS If you want the recipe for the cookies let me know!

Your quick blocks are really fun! They really do have a festive look to them. What a sweet recipe tin. The recipe for fruit salad made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rachael- the blocks are very festive! Of course when I see snowflake fabric I think winter and Christmas!
ReplyDeleteCome on! How cute! "Cut up fruit"! I love your blocks especially the house. It is fun to sew sometimes with no plan, just fun. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love the card! I have inherited several old recipe boxes. There is something about them. Back in the day...I had the recipe for "how to have a girl or boy" in my box! lol
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks, especially because they don't have Christmas fabric - your mix is always on target~
Blocks are Great! And the recipe tin is treasure! But the fruit card is perfect. My mom is from Sweden and we love the oatmeal cookies as well. Recently my mom made Dream Cookies--If your friend makes these you should try them--The are a DREAM too!!!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are adorable. The tincute. May I ask where the patterns are coming from for the blocks. I love how cute they are, and the simplicity. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet blocks! It really is interesting how the fabrics can influence the 'feeling' or style of a quilt.:)
ReplyDeleteTotally Christmas. That tree is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteOh I love your blocks and the fabrics are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chuckle at the end! Yes. Handwritten recipes are the BEST!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice to just sift through one's stash to come up with fabrics to make whatever you want? Your blocks are charming, and will look nice together no matter what you make. No vintage recipe box for me, but I do have a whole bunch of my mother's recipes - some in her own handwriting, and the best ones that she typed onto index cards just for me, as a wedding gift. I cherish those.
ReplyDeleteSometimes simply sewing without a plan and just playing with the fabrics you have in your stash is the best kind of fun. And you're right it's amazing how just using a Christmas "shape" can give the feel of Christmas even without the use of Christmas fabrics. Looks like a lovely place to be right now... :)
ReplyDeleteThat little house looks like a fun house to live in. :) I think I could do that recipe...cut up fruit. But maybe not, I am known to be a danger with knives. LOL
ReplyDeleteI am of Swedish descent so of course I would like the recipe. I like your blocks which can be holiday or not.
ReplyDeleteOF COURSE I want the cookie recipe! Need you ask? Love the bright colors in the blocks.
