Random Thursday

What can I say, I caved to these blocks, the Flowering Snowball. I first spied them over at Mary's blog. The first one I made had the corners using a background fabric. Not what I wanted. If I continued in this manner, my pattern would have looked like this,

Not bad, but maybe next time.

So if you alternate the fabrics, you get this one.

and the pattern looks like this. Value is everything!

The sewing part is actually very easy, as long as you go slow and pay attention to your pattern pieces.
I am so happy to have conquered my fear of curves, a whole new world is opening up!

I also have given Massdrop a try. Not sure if it is a good thing or not yet.

They look kind of like Fall don't they?

  4. Ah.. your flowering snowballs look so very good! Love the fabrics you're using, so bright and fun! The curves are really very gentle aren't they? I too am glad to have more curved piecing skills in my arsenal. It's wonderful not to be limited in what we might want to be making.:)

  11. Beautiful! As always, your fabric choices are spot on! Love the polka dot centers. I just noticed these flowering snowball quilts about a week ago. If only I didn't have so many projects in queue. In the meantime, it will be fun to observe your progress. I haven't used mass drop yet; just watching..

  14. I love this block! Did you have to use templates (dreaded word) to cut out your shapes? It would be a great hand-piecing project for travels too.

  17. Yay for you to be sewing curves. You're right that the trick is to sew slowly. Sure like those AMH prints, a few of which are in my own stash. We have good taste!
