Thank you for all the wonderful comments about mixing the old and new fabrics. I think it could turn out pretty nice, we will see!
This is an old and dirty piece that I want to include in the Bowtie Quilt. It looks like some of the vintage inspired fabrics that are on the market now, with the vibrant colors and pattern. The white part looks dingy though.
I won this as a door prize and never thought I would use it as much as I do. All you do is add it to some water, stir to dissolve and submerge your fabric. Let it sit, rinse out and voila......
The dinginess is gone! There was a small amount of green in the bowl but not much. I am so happy to be able to use this piece. I have heard of people using Restoration on old quilts with good success too.
Shark Week |
The Chinese Lanterns were a HUGE success. We didn't set them all off at once but a few at a time which made the experience last longer. Even the little kids could do it with supervision. They are on the list for sure next year.
We also installed a new Mayor of Hawk Hill to our neighbor, who always gets the ball rolling and organizes our annual event.
I have planted zinnias for many, many years. As I was picking flowers for the party, I noticed the little yellow stars. How did I not see them before?
The Jalapeno cocktail was also a hit, I will post the recipe later this week.

Thanks for the Restoration tip! I have a large container of vintage fabric that I've picked up at house sales, etc., through the years but so many of the pieces are soiled from 'age'.
ReplyDeleteMy son and DIL attended an annual lantern festival (Loi Krathong) in Thailand a few years ago and the photos were fabulous. If you've never seen them, just Google 'lantern festival Thailand'. I've never seen similar lanterns here in the US. I'm sure the kids enjoyed that part of the party!
Oh I will have to try that Restoration on my Grand'mere's old quilt...very pretty zinnias--I keep saying I want to plant them, but always end up doing marigolds instead--which, in this very drought-ridden area are thriving!! Hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThose lanterns are way cool. May have to add them to our 4th of July celebration. Looks like the block party was fun. Did you launch the lanterns before or after those fabulous drinks?
ReplyDeleteThat has made a huge difference to the fabric!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a wonderful time with your neighbours. Love the lanterns.
It looks like you have a lot of fun at your yearly party, Kelly! Like everyone, I am fascinated with the lanterns....how do you capture them again?! Or maybe you don't? I love that vintage fabric!
ReplyDeleteShark week! Love yours! And the lanterns , did you make them, is it a flame, I so want to do them for our 4th of July party. Amazing!
ReplyDeletelove that shark, what a cute idea! the lanterns looked like fun! glad the party went well….

Those lanterns are so cool. Did you buy them or construct them yourselves? We saw lanterns on the beach in Cozumel. So romantic to see them float out over the ocean.
ReplyDeleteI need to try the Restoration product. Having many old pieces from Sweden, this may help in preserving. Thanks for the information. And what a fun week in your neighborhood. The shark and lanterns were fantastic!
ReplyDeletesuch fun! Love your shark watermelon - and how fun with the swedish fish :)
ReplyDeleteThe paper lanterns are so cool!
I've never noticed the little stars in zinnias either. do you plant plants or sow seeds?
what a fun looking party
Never done any kind of restoration on fabrics or quilts. Good to know! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat watermelon shark looks fun! My old neighbor's daughter had a baby shower and her friends had made it into a belly with baby and all! She posted it on fb just couple of weeks back! Those Chinese lanterns took me back home! These are huge! We used to tie them on a kite string to send them up. Looks like you all had a great weekend!
Looks like a fun block party, Kelly! I've been using jalapenos for salsa making, but am interested in your recipe for turning them into cocktails. :o)
ReplyDeleteWow. Impressed with the transformation that you got soaking the fabric in that product. Will have to remember to look for some of this stuff as I like vintage fabrics, but not the yellowish dingy look some have.
I can't believe how great that fabric came out. Looks bright and new. I must remember that.
ReplyDeleteI love the shark bowl.
I'm getting some of that Restoration product - impressive! The shark is fantastic - I've been wanting to plant zinnias, next summer for sure!
