Sunny Days

I live in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country. Usually by now we are already into the hazy, hot and humid part of summer. Not this year! It has been gorgeous, sunny and warm with cool breezes and no humidity. I would love a summer of mid '70 temperatures.
It has been perfect weather to get the garden in order too, which means I have not been sewing. I am still pecking along with my Farmer's Wife blocks. I am feeling I need to come to a decision to make all or some of the blocks.

Our guild quilt show is next May, a quick short year away. I pulled some fabrics to make a little raffle quilt that was a success last time around. We make these instead of doing a large raffle quilt. Each member is encouraged to make a quilt 18 x 18 using any theme they wish. Attendees can buy tickets for any quilts they want with a chance to win at the end of the show. The size and variety were a good draw.
Now that I am looking at this picture that bottom green is not showing up too well.

This one might be better....

I have all these blocks sewn into rows and now need to sew those rows together. This will be my next goal to get off the UFO pile.

This finally went out to the quilter. I am so happy to have this one it's way! Why did I procrastinate for so long?
How do you balance summer and sewing? The urge to be outside is strong along with parties, graduations, vacations and does not leave a lot of time to get in the sewing room.

  2. It's wonderful to see your star quilt top finished and sent to the quilters! I love the cool colours in your FW block. It's such a great idea that your guild members each make little raffle quilts!

  4. Every time I see this quilt I just drool--so gorgeous! The raffle quilt idea sounds wonderful! I bet the variety ensures that there is something for everyone. I am barely keeping up with my quilting lately. So much going on and yet the draw to sew is strong enough to make sure that I still do a little bit so that I don't give up entirely.:)

  7. The red and white lonestar with green trees in corners is striking. I am struggling with balancing sewing time with outdoor activities. It's okay though that outdoors wins out after the winter we experienced.

  8. LOVE LOVE LOVE the red and green lonestar!!! Balancing school, family, and sewing time is not happening here at all. Almost halfway through the year and nothing has been accomplished in my stitching world. In the past, for summer I did handwork outside or when the allergies took over I enjoyed being with my sewing machine inside.

  12. wowsey, so many pretties! I admire anyone who can make a lone star. Would love to see how it is quilted. I usually do some embroidery in the summer, as you know. I'm thinking of doing some fussy cut hexagons. Things I can pick up and stitch on and even travel with. Thats my somewhat of a solution for summer sewing.

  13. Stunning quilt. Look forward to seeing it quilted.
I like the idea of making smaller quilts to be raffled. Do a lot of people provide them and do you make as much money as compared to one large quilt?
Enjoy the lack of humidity. You get enough in other years to deserve a break!

  14. I love your red star quilt. It's just gorgeous. Our weather here has been beautiful, too. Yesterday afternoon I had a list of things to do, but I picked up some hand sewing and sat out on the deck for a couple of hours to enjoy.
