Quick Curve Ruler Demo

Today I stopped in at The Quilt Block, my LQS. The beautiful blue polka dot fabric is Snowbird by Laundry Basket Quilts from MODA. I also picked up this Urban Nine Patch pattern that I have been wanting to make.

Jan and Cynthia asked me to demo the ruler this Saturday from 10 to 12 and also to do a 4 hour class in July. The inventor, Jenny Pedigo was quite a hit at Quilt Market. So if you are local, stop by and see me on Saturday.

Today is a rather daunting anniversary for me. Four years ago a tree fell on my car during a bad storm and broke my neck. If you are interested in hearing the story you can read about it here. It is amazing how much different I am today, and I am thankful to still be here.
Ok now this is really strange as I glanced down at the time to get ready to post this, it is the exact same time the tree fell. Cue in the twilight zone music!!No storm clouds in the sky today!

  1. Yikes! I got all emotional reading about the tree falling on you! I'm so glad you have recovered so nicely! People don't realize how big trees are! We had a horrible ice storm and the power was out and tree limbs were breaking off and falling into the yard. Every time one fell, the ground shook! You are one tough little quilter! XO

  2. I remember reading your story when you posted it. I'm so thankful for your recovery.
I love the Urban 9patch pattern, I'm looking forward to see your version, you always pick the best fabric combos.

  3. I remember asking you about your accident and then reading the post. I can not imagine how scary that was. And how hard you worked to rehab and regain strength afterwards. So happy that you did.
I really need to check out that ruler.

  4. Now the whole time thing is really creepy! I'm so glad you recovered and are still here to entertain and educate us and love your big family. We never know where life will take us, do we?

  5. No wonder you remember the date! So glad you made it through all the hard months and were able to regain the things that matter. I'm sure it's something that changed the way you view everything about your life. It's easy for me to remember this time of year but it's because of a much happier event. My husband and I got married 23 yrs. ago on Sunday.:) This year was one of those that seemed very reflective, I suppose because of our children graduating college/high school etc. Moving on to the next phase in life!

  6. Do tell more about your Quick Curve Ruler class. Are you going to teach the Urban Nine Patch pattern - have the students buy it? I need to do a QCR demo in my modern quilt guild chapter, in August. Would love to know more about what you expect to share. I'm already making a couple things to have to show, including place mats with one QCR element on each. I think I remember that blog post about the tree falling because that's when I first started reading your blog. Amazing that it's been four years already. I sure hope you are doing well, health-wise.

  10. So glad you made it through such a difficult time. 4 1/2 years ago our son was in a terrible car accident that left him in a coma with a Tramatic Brain Injury. He was expected to die but instead had a miraculous recovery. We remember the date each year and call it his rebirth day. Like you, he had a long and arduous recovery but life is more precious to our whole family now. Sending you quilty hugs and wishes that

  11. Kelly, I must have begun reading your blog after this post because I had no idea you had been through this. I went back and read your story and can't imagine all you went through. Thankfully, you survived well and are always so positive and encouraging on your blog and with posts to others. I will think of you differently - in a very good way - than I did before!! Thanks for sharing!

  14. I've just joined the guild the day you came back after your accident.
You were up on stage telling us about how you were upset that you had new fabric in the car and you wanted your husband to get it out before it was to late.
Never having quilt before, I didn't understand. .. now I do. Glad your healthy and happy.

  18. Ironically, I was thinking of you today when I heard a story on the radio of a lady barely missing being crushed by a tree. I'm so glad that you are doing well these 4 years later. You are such an inspiration to us all.
