Friday Already
This morning before Zumba I stitched and ironed some of those scraps I showed yesterday. They are going to be all different sizes so it should be interesting to see how they end up being sewed together.
The baby quilt I made is finished in plenty of time before the shower. I used some Sommerville charm squares and other fabrics along with some blue Kona. It will be a fun quilt for a baby to look at and spit up on etc!
The background is a cute little star fabric. It still needs a label.
My binding is machine sewed and came out perfect! Why oh why can't that happen when it really matters?
I have a question......do you wash your baby quilts before you give them away?
I think the mom, grandmom and hopefully the baby will like it too.
Have a great weekend!
Kelly
Yes, I do wash quilts before giving them away. I have cats and dogs in my house, so I hope that by washing the quilts, I'm minimizing my pets' impact on someone's allergies.
ReplyDeleteWow, that binding looks amazing. I might do binings by machine if mine came out looking like that!
ReplyDeletenot usually, but I prewash all my fabrics I will wash it if I spray-basted it. it's a really fun quilt.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a very sweet baby quilt. The backing is so perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cheery baby quilt ~ lucky recipients!
ReplyDeleteNo, I never wash a quilt before I gift it. I am a committed fabric pre-washer, so all fabrics have been washed/shrunk and checked for colorfastness. After several online discussions re: prewashing, I have come to suspect that sometimes water differs from place to place and that might influence colors running, so I usually include a couple of Colorcatchers & explanatory note with the gift.
Cute, cute quilt! I am so impressed with your machine stitched binding! It is perfect!!
ReplyDeleteI prewash all my fabric, so I don't wash my finished quilts.
I love what I see with your scraps. The baby quilt is darling. A perfect binding, not one to be found in my house!
ReplyDeleteI always was my quilt before I give them to anyone. I want them to smell fresh and clean. If for a baby I use Dreft and no softener in case of allergies.
I wash mine too. That way if something falls apart, I can fix it-lol (that actually hasn't happened in a long time). I LOVE your baby quilt! Don't you like going to the shower with a baby quilt! It is always the hit of the shower. Your colors are the colors I love and you put them together so well! XO
ReplyDeleteI love all the fun colours you use! Your machine binding looks so perfect! I'd wash a baby quilt before giving it, it makes it nice and crinkly.
ReplyDeleteKelly that quilt is the perfect baby quilt. Luv it! Wash it! Let it dry under a ceiling fan and watch it draw up and become beyond fabulous!
ReplyDeleteEven if you are a pre-washer, did you spray starch the the back before you quilted it? Plus this quilt has been "handled", as it should have been, in the making so wash it and watch it become cuter that you thought it was....and it is pretty stinkin cute!
That pop of blue brings those colors together. Lucky baby!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they will love it!! I wash all my finished quilts to soften them up a bit.
ReplyDeletethe dotty binding is adorable
Darling baby quilt, Kelly! Just too cute. And how in the world did you get machine-sewn binding to look like that?! I think we need a tutorial, my friend. Yes, I always wash a baby quilt before giving it away.
ReplyDeleteGreat colors! Cute pattern. Perfect binding. Who wouldn't love it?
ReplyDeleteI am just crazy over that gorgeous baby quilt! Great fabrics, and the turquoise really ties them all together. Fantastic job!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous baby quilt. Love the fabric and colours.
ReplyDeleteGreat binding. I just can't ever seem to get all the way round with machine binding without missing a couple of spots. Would love to get better at it.
The baby quilt is wonderful….almost makes me want to have a baby!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a happy baby quilt, Kelly! Oh and that binding is perfect. Love a pretty machine stitched binding. Yes, I'm one of the ones that prewashes the baby quilt (figured it's a way to double check all my stitches hold things together ;o) before giving.
ReplyDeleteCute fabrics for a cute quilt. Your binding is wonderful and perfect for a quilt that will be well loved, I'm sure.
