Two Questions + A Giveaway

Snowbound

We all have favorite quilts, so much so that sometimes it is hard to pick out which one is our favorite. How many of you have a quilt you made that you don't like? Was it the pattern, the fabric, the time in your life that made you not like it? I do not like this quilt very much at all. It is called Snowbound and I made it in 1994. It was a popular pattern at the time.

Johnson, Dylan, Colin and Caitlin immortalized in fabric!

I did personalized it with my 4 children. Poor Caitlin she is all wrinkled.

I remember thinking how fun and fast this would be to make....not so. All of the applique is fused and there is not one stitch to hold any of it down. This was also during my country phase......

So my questions to you are:

Do you have a quilt you made that you don't like? Would you be willing to share it? {This only counts as 1 question}

My second question is.....When you are looking up a business, like a phone number or ad, where do you look? The phone book, the internet etc? There was a long discussion about this and inquiring minds want to know.

I will pick the winner at random next Wednesday, November 6. You will win a box of scraps of your choosing..... mixed, pink, red, blue or green. I don't have enough of other colors to fill a good size box. I promise they will all be good scraps, no dogs. I will not promise to weed out all the small ones though..

Answer the questions and  let me know your color choice. Good luck!
Please be sure that I have your email address or I will not be able contact you.

  1. I have made quilts I did not like usually my lack of skill was the problem. ;) I don't think that I kept any though. One I tossed while it was still a top. I will have to look and see if I have any pictures of quilts I did not like.
I almost always look things up on the internet.

  2. Any project I don't like gets given away - to friends if they like it or to charity!
I look most things up on the internet - phonebooks are used mainly for foundation piecing!

  3. I use the phone book! Most of my quilts I like...if I don't like a quilt it never gets finished!

  5. Definitely made quilts I don't like although most were in the earlier days of quilting. I think I'd be willing to share them--I'm not ashamed of them, I just prefer to call them my 'training' quilts! And I generally look up a business in the phone book first.

  6. You may be interested to know that phone books are being phased out in Australia. I give away quilts I don't like. And mixed colour scraps would be great!

  7. A quilt that I machine ditch-stitched is my least favorite quilt, but at least I learned never to do that again! As for looking up businesses, i use the internet exclusively. I use telephone books for foundation paper-piecing string quilts--not for numbers or addresses!

  9. I have a quilt I don't like. I don't like the colours. I wont share it because I hope to give it away one day to someone who will like it and I'll feel bad if I say bad things about it. I hope that makes sense. I'm curious that your quilt doesn't have any stitching. I always think that the fusable stuff will wear out eventually and then the pieces will fall off. Your quilt is really very sweet. As for looking up information I go straight to the internet. It seems faster, easier and quite often it will lead to the company's website if they have one, or maybe you need to see on a map where the business is and you can go straight to google maps, there's lots of benefits that phone books don't have. Phone books are great for pressing flowers though.

  10. I have made quilts that in retrospect I questioned the design, implementation and/or materials choices. But, I still look back fondly on them, remembering the sweet intentions, the good things about the eras in which they were made, and for some of them, the use until the fabric was so well loved that it frayed. I like your Snowbound quilt, by the way. I shouts "happy!". As to your second question, I haven't used the phone book in many years. The Internet is easier and more informative.

  11. I have not been quilting long enough to have a quilt I do not like. Your quilt is lovely. Maybe you can add some fabric sparkle or little trinkets. If you are up to finishing it finish it for a Salvation Army Christmas angel.
When I need to look up a company I goggle them and read the reviews. Thank you for the chance to win some scraps. I am making a charm quilt and they would be perfect for it.

  12. I look up numbers on the Internet.
And yes, I have several quilts I am not fond of - and yes, I would be willing to share. :)

  13. Yes and yes in answer to your first question. :o)
I always look things up on the internet. I like how fast and easy that is! Phone book just collects dust in this house. ;o)
Hmmm... red or pink or blue... please, Kelly. Fingers crossed... lol...

  14. I have made at least 4 quilts that I don't like, mostly because of my fabric choices. I look things up on the internet first because I can't see the phone book without my glasses. I'd chose red.

  15. My first Quilt was a Baby Blanket made in Blocks with Muslin and Checked Pastels, this was given to my "Girlfriend" for her First Baby and it was used with all 4 of her Children... Easy and simple + I think it was Tied too..She Loved it.. and I use the phone book or White pages .com....depending if they are local or out of area...

  16. I think your 90's quilt is sweet. Am new enough at quilting that I can find fault with everything I've made. Definitely look up everything on internet and would choose blue or green... Thank you!

  17. I made a quilt back in the '90s...2-2 1/2 yards of a floral print for the back & the front was a matching cheater print of matching floral squares...hideous blues. I put it together "whole cloth" style, polyester batting and tied it! It was ugly but my mom's Chihuahua dog LOVED it. He would work for a half hour piling it up then burrow under it and sleep for hours! It was washed frequently and all the batting wadded up inside and I thankfully threw it away. I look up everything on the internet. No landline, so the phone company doesn't deliver us a phone book and I haven't even missed it. Oh, scraps...love scraps and mixed would be so much fun! Thank you!

  18. I have only 2 quilt tops, haven't completed any yet. New quilter. Would look it up on internet, unless local then try phone book. Mixed or red box. (Need deep dark red fabric). 24Tangent@gmail.com

  19. Yes, I made a quilt I hated. I used it for several years on my bed and then gave it to goodwill. No regrets. I use the Internet. And green would be great!

  20. Great question and of course I have, but not too many. I just look at them and think "well, that's where I was then..." I use the internet for all my look ups.
Scraps giveaway - great idea, I'm overflowing with them, so pick someone who really needs them, lol. ;)

  21. Yes, I have a few quilts that I'm not really fond of anymore. Mostly it's because my tastes and style has evolved over the years. And fabric choices have exploded compared to way back then. I mostly use the internet to look things up. The print in the phone books seems to have gotten smaller. My Snowbound quilt is still one of my favorites. I just moved all my fabric....so I'm sure there is someone who needs more scraps than I do. :0)

  22. The first quilt I made and the next few were civil war, now I seem to like the brighter colors (think Kaffe Fassett). As far as looking up numbers, at work I just look on the computer but at home I probably still use the phone book as I don't often have the computer up there anymore. Thanks

I'd like any colors - the brighter the better

  23. I have a quilt top I don't like, that's why it's still only a top. I wouldn't mind sharing it.
I always use the internet. At this age I'm so glad I don't have to look at those teeny weeny numbers in the telephone book!

  24. I have quilts I don't like as well as others but the ones I really did not like I have given away. I'd be happy to share the not great ones though. For businesses in my town I look in the phone book but for places away from home that I want to go to while traveling I look up online. My favorite colors are red and blue.

  25. yep....i do have some ugly quilts! And...I don't mind sharing. Love scraps. Every color!

  26. I give the quilts I'm not crazy about to charity. We don't have a current phone book. I look up the number on the internet. If they don't have a website, then I'm in trouble!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I haven't made any quilts I didn't like, although I have made some for others that were not to my taste but made for their taste. I used to use phone books to look businesses up, but I have to admit I now turn to the internet first. If I win I would like the mix of pink and red scraps.

  28. I always check the internet when I am thinking of calling a business. Our phone books aren't very up to date here! Loved your half square triangle quilt! It's very cheerful on this grey morning! As for quilts that I don't like, I rarely finish them! I use the old tops for other crafts. Have a great day Kelly!

  30. Oh my I have a quilt top that I have not finished because I do not like the fabric! (I felt obligated to use it because it was given to me after my Mother-in-law died-Maybe she didnt l like that fabric either...THAT IS MAYBE WHY SHE DIDN'T USE IT!) Used to use phone book, now I use internet:)

  31. Oh my. I have numerous quilts I no longer like. I'd love to give them away, but I'm sure others wouldn't like them either! Please don't enter me to win more scraps though. Goodness knows I have plenty of them, and no time to get to sewing these days. Thanks anyway. You're a generous person to share your scrappy wealth with others.

  33. If I am looking for a business these days the first place I'll look is the internet. It has been a long time since I've used a phone book!
