Diary Block Tuesday

This weekend we went to the wedding of my daughter's friend. I don't know about you but I cry at every single wedding I go to, even if I don't know them very well!

And yes I did wear my pearls!. My dress was plain black but this dress is made from a real hankie! I always put a real hankie in my purse for weddings (and funerals). It just looks so much nicer than a tissue! I also feel a bit retro.

I cut off a corner of another hankie and pressed it with the iron.

The bride looked beautiful, don't they always glow? Notice the belt, this is the second one we have seen among new brides....Christine take note.

Maddy was a flower girl and did a great job spreading the petals on the floor. Overall I think she was a little bored as you can tell by the look on her face. Isn't her dress cute? She got new shoes and the first thing she said when the whole thing was over is "these shoes hurt and I want to take them off" I wonder how long she will keep to that???

Maddy and her mom all dressed up. In about a year we will be holding a wedding too. I hope these 2 still have those wonderful smiles on their faces!

Oh and by the way is it hankie or hanky?

Keeping It Real

Tie It On

Never did I ever think I would make a tie! This is for my brother in law David. It is made out of vintage fabric and looks very summery.

I made him one for Christmas that had pink polka dots and flowers on it. Not only did he love it but every time he wore it everyone asked him where he bought it!

Here is the back, his one complaint was that the first one did not have the tag to tuck the skinny part of the tie in.

This was yummy good and so easy to make. It is called a gallatte. Make a standard 2 crust pie crust and roll it out. Spread the bottom of the crust with almond paste. In a separate bowl mix 2 cups of blueberries with about a 1/2 c of sugar and a pinch of salt, mix well. Pour blueberries into the middle of the crust, dot with butter and fold the edges towards the middle. Brush crust with milk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in a 400 oven for about 25 to 30 minutes or until the top is brown. My husband ate almost the whole thing, not in one sitting!

Diary Block Tuesday #34

Charming! is the theme of this week's diary block. We are attending a wedding this weekend and I was deciding what jewelry I was wearing with my dress. As I dug through my massive amounts of jewels ( :
I decided on the pearl necklace.

I also came across my charm bracelet from back in the day. These were very popular when I was growing up in the 1960's and '70s.

This charm was given to me by my parents when I graduated from 8th grade in 1971. I even remember the dress because I made it, pink chiffon.

Growing up my father traveled all over the world for business. Once he had to be in California for 2 months. He brought me back this charm for my birthday. The little rhinestones all fell out over time but it is still one of my favorite ones.

I took ballet for about 11 years and loved every minute of it!

I am Irish!

My first Holy Communion, circa 1965. This is probably one of my first charms.

This was for my 18th birthday from my boyfriend, now husband Bob.

My very brief stint as a cheerleader in 1971.

I glued on the bracelet and attached the charms with jump rings and glued them as well.

It was fun to look at my charm bracelet again and remember things from long ago. I know there are newer versions of charm bracelets out there now that don't "jingle" at all. The jingle does remind me of days gone by and grandmothers but hey, I am one now too! I think I like the jingle.

PS I am not getting my nails done for the wedding!

Monday Morning Post

The baby quilt is finished and 2 weeks ahead of time. I think the mama will like it.

It is very overcast here today so it is hard to get a good picture. The colors are grey and pink.

Speaking of pink things I got to spend the day on Friday with Maddy, just the 2 of us. First we went to see the movie Brave. Neither one of us thought it was that good. She was ready to leave after the first 10 minutes.

We made her pillow. Sewing velvet with a 4yr old on your lap was a definite challenge! Thanks again Cheryl for the monogram!

She picked out this fabric for the back, surprise it's Barbie! She stuffed it and slipped stitch the opening with purple thread because she thought it would look pretty.

Next we moved on to beading some bracelets....

Some needlepoint.....thanks for the tip Kathy D! The plastic needle was a great idea. She really felt like she was sewing.

At the last minute she decided it was Julie's birthday. We didn't have time to make a cake so we made do with ice cream and candles.
Oh to be 4 again!

Diary Block Tuesday #33

How many pairs of scissors do you have? It is amazing how something so simple is such a workhorse in every house. I started counting up all the ones I have just for sewing and stopped looking at 21!
My husband never picks up a pair of scissors without asking "Can I use these to cut paper?" I have trained him well!

Pink Monday

Not ironed yet!

Baby quilts are one of my favorite things to make. Fast, fun and easy to machine quilt. It also gives you a nice chance to play with fabrics as well.

Don't you love this fabric that had little baby sayings all over it! This went together fast, I cut and pieced the entire thing yesterday.

As you can tell this is for a baby girl. I loved this little one on a swing, how perfect. This will be machine quilted by the end of the week.....

To continue with the pink theme today......my friend Cheryl machine embroidered this piece of velvet for Maddy. She thinks we might turn it into a pillow.

Until then she is using it as a table cloth, so she can look at it.
