Small Sewing Day

The first finish in my new, but not yet complete sewing room. My granddaughter Maddy didn't have school today so we made a quilt. My friend Cheryl gave this panel to me and it was perfect for a 6 year old.

She did do the stitching and was afraid her hands would go under the presser foot. I had my hands on top of her hands at all times.

She asked if she could pick out the stitches. We ended up doing a zig zag.

She liked using my snips to cut the threads. She looks like she has been doing this for a while!

She also enjoyed taking out the safety pins.

She organized all my pins....

fast forward we are on to the next project....

Remember these?

After a few games of Go Fish and reading some new books it was time for her to leave with her new quilt. She was very proud to show her signature on the back.
We did have one disagreement. She wanted to use a fabric I was saving for another project, for the back of her quilt. When I told her to pick another, she got a little grumpy because "she really liked" that one. When she left she told me she still liked that other fabric better.....I think she is already coveting my stash!

  1. Way to go Maddy and grandma! Looks like you've got a keen quilting partner, Kelly. Just think... if she keeps on like this, one day she will have a stash. ;o)

  2. Ohhh how adorable--isn't that terrific--she must have been so proud of her quilt. I remember my Grand'mere showing me on her
Singer Featherweight machine how to sew---(I wish I had that now!!). Your granddaughter Maddy is just adorable. And I totally
understand her grumpiness at not getting THAT fabric--a quilter in the making...hugs, Julierose

  3. Good news....Maddie is a quilter....Bad news.... you may have to defend your stash. LOL The quilt is really cute and I love Maddy's smile minus some teeth. So cute.

  4. Adorable! I am sure you dated the quilt. Hope Maddy's age is written on it too. This time you get to spend with her is so precious. She is going to remember it forever. Cut panel!

  5. I was a huge fan of Strawberry Shortcake when I was about Maddies age. You two always have such fun together. How cute that Maddie has definite ideas about fabric choices. One day she'll have a stash that she can share with you.

  6. Good for Maddy - she knows what she likes/wants, lol.
Her quilt turned out great! My daughter at 20 still like to use those meaty beads to make things. she has a tub of a million and like 20 different bases to work on.
Maddy can organize my pins any time :)

  7. What a clever girl Maddy is - her quilt looks great!! What a fun day. (Better put your stash under lock and key!)

  8. What a lovely way to spend a day. I think it is great that she enjoys sewing. Perfect!

  9. Who had more fun? You or Maddy? What a great day!

  10. She is darling. You are making good memories. I hope I'm doing that here, too.

I love to read your comments, they make my day!
