Diary block #49

As you can see this block is a wedding dress. My daughter found her dress and bought it this past week. It looks nothing like this. She has decided not to tell anyone what it looks like before the wedding. I like the idea!
She did a great job, the very first place we went to she decided on the 5th dress she tried on, that's my girl! Decisive!!!
I had a few issues with this block.......

I tried to actually make a dress that would be appliqued to the block. A half hour later I changed the plan. I cut out a dress shape, fused it on to the fabric and sewed the tulle on top. Originally it was on a pink background until I accidently wrote on it with a permanent marker. I cut it out leaving the small pink edge and decided on a rose (for romance) print fabric that looks much prettier than the plain pink.

The beaded sashes are a hot trend as well as beading on a lot of the dresses we saw at the store. My favorite moment was when she tried on "the" dress, the other women in the room told her she looked like a princess!
So far the whole wedding process has gone pretty smooth. Let's hope it continues!!!

  2. Congrats on the dress, your DD's and your adorable block. I hope all the wedding plans go smoothly for you right up to and including the big day.

My DD and SIL went to Vegas last year and this year weare finally getting to have a reception. What started out 'casual' is now over 200 guests, a new dress for DD and a new suit for SIL. They will renew their vows. I hope they don't think of anything else cause the date is 11/24. Yep right after Thanksgiving this year.

  3. My daughter was the same way, she tried on maybe 3-4 dresses and loved the last one. We had gone to only one store (David's Bridal) for their Black Friday sale, and it was a great price, too! I see those shows on TV with crazies trying to pick out dresses and really wonder about people!

Love the block. It reminds me of all the Barbie gowns and dresses I've made.

  9. What a great block! I well remember the magic, and the tears, when DD found The Dress too!

I was surprised at first -- I was sure you would do a block about the storm; after all, it was a once in a lifetime event (we hope)!

p.s. Being the mother of all boys, I'm so jealous of wedding dress shopping.
